...they should be, shouldn't they?

Ah thanks for your help FelixGriffin.

And no the p1 files weren't actually in a GCF I said it a bit stupidly.

Bumping again. I found out that the process is a lot more complex than just moving a couple of files. Apparently I have to de- and recompile the cake and edit the .qc file.

So I have now managed to do all of that but the compiler wont compile the cake but instead keeps crashing. I have read all the advice in about 10 threads on this forum but found no answer. NEED HELP!!

It shouldn't be that hard to move files from one Source game to the other. From what I can tell people have already ported the cake model into Portal 2 in the past. Also here's proof that it shouldn't be that hard.

I would have had to decompile and recompile every single model used in that map in order to get it working. It should be as simple as moving files from one game directory into the other.

I know some people have been able to get the cake working in p2 but just because they have managed to do it doesn't mean it's not hard.

Or maybe I just suck so bad on hammer

EDIT: and the problem still exists :/ I cant figure out how to compile the files.

EDIT2: The original problem with just copying the files is that when I do that and open up the cake on hammer(add it to the map) it only shows the yellow lines around it and as I compile the map it says "unable to load vertex data"

here https://dl.dropbox.com/u/37801279/twp/portal2.zip use that one :D
copy it over so the portal2 folder merges with steamapps/common/portal 2/portal2 ^_^

Oh! I know that error!

Did you copy the file called [something].dx80.vtx?

Rename it to .dx90.vtx and it will work. Portal 2 just uses a new version of DirectX.

aw man is that the actual cake recompiled for portal2? I was looking for that thing myself. Can I scale it several times it's original size?

Just when I think I understand the system, it changes on me.

That cake works in p2 ;)
Dunno what the quality will be when you scale it several times ;)

Yessh!! :-D Thank you so much Felix and Lpreaky! I'll try those out when I come back home(I'm on a holiday now) and report back then.
