I'd love to start in a city environment, right outside aperture labs, and make my way to the mountains. I'm sure that a creatively designed outdoor map would work very nicely. you just wouldn't be able to use "distant wall props" in such an area, like is the norm in many outdoor maps.

i guess if you aim at the sky, it would not be satisfying to hear the portal splattering against a non-portable wall. it would have to die without landing. perhaps without a sound. i guess you could have low lying clouds a mile or two up as a "ceiling." that might even be a reasonable way to get around in the map.

just how big can a 'room' be in portal anyway?

it would be cool to see reproductions of known environments, either from in the other games, or rl...

then to get back in, you might come across sewers with tiny spots inside to get into the tunnels, etc.
