Epic Introduction Thread
Quote from Lukavian on May 14, 2011, 2:26 amSo, I've spit out a few comments here and there on P2 maps, but I thought that since my work will soon begin on actually creating puzzles of my own [crosses fingers while knocking on wood], I'd drop by and say hello.
Lukavian here. Couldn't tell you when I first learned of Portal, but I've loved it since. I was on the bandwagon pre-ordering P2, and blew through it in about 7 hours. Co-op, likewise, was one sitting, don't remember how long. It was a matter of two days before I started scouting for custom maps...and I've not been disappointed, by and large.
At any rate, I don't have any illusions of creating something epic or awesome or groundbreaking...Valve has taken care of most of those already. But if I can churn out something that squeezes another ten minutes of replay value for 50 or so people, that's 500 minutes of enjoyment that didn't exist without me. Weird rationalization, I know. Crafting is fun, though. Challenging, engaging, cerebral.GLaD to be here.

Quote from Thursaz on May 14, 2011, 5:53 amHah, fairly new myself, trying to make myself useful via constructive criticism, though I could certainly do much better, I think. I'm here because of an instatiable thirst for Portal 2 maps, and will likely be making my own maps in time- Depends on when I can find the time. Or rather, if I can find the time. I'd hope so. xD
(And yes, I have no time to look up mapmaking but I have time to complete almost every puzzle posted thus far. Did I mention I'm lazy sometimes?)

Like, gerbil vs elephant. I've spent about as much time solving every puzzle thus far posted (with maybe two exceptions, and those I still tried) as I've spent working out triggers and basic fundamentals to build a map in which you walk forward, the door opens, and you enter a larger room. Seriously. The process is very time-consuming and pretty taxing mentally.
Laziness has nothing to do with it, not really.

Quote from doomed23 on May 17, 2011, 6:25 pmHi,
I am here on TWP mainly to download any good maps for Portal and Portal 2 and give feedback and also release the maps that I make. I know I have been a member on here for a while, but it's only recently that I finally released my first Portal map and have also decided to download and play more maps and become active in the forums.
I will also release at least a couple of Portal 2 maps in the future as I have a few map ideas and it is normally a lot of fun making maps. I have also released maps for other games too, which are linked on my blog (see link below).

Hello!
I would say I am quite experienced mapper, I have made maps with hammer since CS:S was released. I also love making maps on all other games I have (TF2, Super Meat Boy, I also made couple Company of Heroes maps...)
So yeah,

Quote from Will T. on May 22, 2011, 8:53 pmBeen using the Source SDK for a couple years with TF2, but I didn't really learn all the gritty stuff with logic entities and the like until the Portal 2 one came along just now. Most of what I've done with it has just been experiments, but I'm hoping to make something coherent to release.
I've made one fully-functional and solvable puzzle, but I'm not sure if I'll release it as it's very simplistic compared to other puzzles, and there are a few things I still want to learn how to do in it (e.g. portal placement helper entities). Hopefully I can create a "full" puzzle with some real challenge sometime.
