Felix's Hammer Notepad

PreviousPage 10 of 16Next

I'll release it if you want, but it's not very pretty. I just used some files that Omni and Reepblue made for gel in Portal 1, so it looks like the stuff from Conversion-Cubed.

This version is not quite workshop-compatible, but the only thing you'd be missing if you played from the workshop would be the explosion particle for the blob. The rest would work fine, and the explosion would show up almost perfectly if you had ever used the Stylechanger.

You can use Speed Gel now, but not Portal Gel. If you have a brilliant idea I'll see about changing that, but I've only ever seen two decent portal gel puzzles (Gel Trampoline and one in Reepblue's notepad) and one depended on being able to mix gels.

you mean the adhesiongel?
Is it full completed or are you still working on it? I've heared something about adding a cube stick function^^ If it is full completed it would be nice to have it, if not I can wait a little longer (waiting since I found out about Valves plans for this Gel short after the release of Portal 2, some more time to wait doesn't make much difference^^)
But 'ive already startet to think about use in puzzels, and I've some basic Ideas that I want to try^^

for the other Gels: I actually think they arer really great. Sometimes the placed-texture looks a little strange at first look, but I think after the first few times you won't mind that anymore.
same here, if there isn't something full completed, I think I and the community can wait a little longer, but I've also started to think about puzzels with it^^

[edit]: don't worry about the conversiongel, It's not really needed at the momennt, at least not for my puzzles^^

I meant the version with the custom blob effect.

It works now, but it's still a WiP. I'm working on the cube-stick function, for one. I plan to have Turret Cubes be immune to that, as they're easy to separate out (different classname), and in the Wheatley style it's justifiable that both would be present.

As soon as I have my "SDK Pack" properly updated I'll PM it to you, you can use it to make puzzles (although the gel won't look good without the full installer). If you come up with any send them back and I'll put them in the mappack.

Thanks for the gel. I just thought of a nice quick puzzle. I may need reepblue's permission, because it uses BP magnets.
EDIT: Am I making this in Wheatley style or does it not matter? I'm just a bit new to doing Wheatley style.

If it's possible, I would like to see the differences of the custom blobs, to the normal blobs^^

It doesn't matter, I'll detail it a bit anyway. It's REALLY hard to do Wheatley-style with Adhesion Gel, so just make it clean and add some monitors.

I'm just wundering if it is somehow possible to changes the name of the materials files that are used to turn the Gel purple. Maybe via a script or these skin-system?

anyway its a little buggy. but I lik the adhesion Gel :)

I'll start to create an easy basic map in Cave johnson style, while thinking about new puzzle-Ideas this weekend^^

It's not possible to change the materials in any way, except by changing the path inside the VMT (which I assume isn't what you want). I'm working on fixing the bugs now, but the only major one left (as in making the map unplayable if it happens) is if you switch directly from the floor to the ceiling by using a tractor beam.

I'd recommend waiting until the end to detail your map, since it's REALLY annoying with everything tied to an entity. You can't group brushes or use visgroups on them.

I would be interested in making a puzzle but I have some questions:
1. This Does Definitely without a doubt work with blue and speed gel?
2. If you land on it by via Ariel faith plate will you stick?
3. if you place a portal underneath you while you are on the wall what happens?
and can I make this in Pti and export it and put the gel in. I don't need to do this but I'm not very good with hammer. If it has to be done In hammer I can do that. Also I don't need speed gel It would just be nice :)

1) Yes it does. It's even possible to combine them if you change some settings in Hammer.
2) Yes. Same if you fling, use a tbeam, or use a gel-launch.
3) I tested this just a bit ago. You fall through and gravity "changes" as you come out, just as it normally does if you have portals on different surfaces.
4) This cannot be placed in the PTI, but if you make a PTI puzzle it's fairly easy for me to add it in. Just use Conversion Gel as a placeholder.
