General game discussion thread
Quote from Yalow on July 12, 2008, 11:43 pmHmmm... I think I might have some interesting stuff to put here.
While I do like newer stuff such as the Orange Box, Halo, etc., my favourite genre is definitely platformers, which has not been getting the attention it deserves in the past couple years. I love Mario, (with the exception of SMB2), and recently I've been playing a freeware game called Obake. It's this really weird game where you play as a ghost, and you gain abilities by possessing enemies. Very cool. Similar to Kirby, but WAY better. I highly recommend you give it a shot (but hook up a controller if you've got one).
On the RPG front, I also liked KH2, but never tried KH1. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was a great game, with a lot of interesting techniques and stuff, I recently got the DS version, but so far I'm not liking it as much. An older favourite of mine is Tales Of Symphonia, which is an AMAZING game due to its battle engine, which uses a side-view, multiplayer action system, which adds a ton of strategic depth. Anyone with a Gamecube or Wii and even moderately likes RPGs should play this. It also has a great storyline.
Weirdly enough, the game Pokemon Puzzle League also has a special place in my heart, as really, the only puzzle game I like (not counting Portal, but it's not really the same kind of puzzle). It's just a really simple game, which requires more thinking than Tetris. If you're interested in trying it, it was on N64 and Gameboy Color, though it was also released as just "Puzzle League" as a GBA game with Dr. Mario.
Geez. I went long.
Sorry.
Oh, and I've also been fooling around with the Spore Creature Creator, and I'm getting antsy for the full game.
