Just saying, no where has Valve stated its a prequel. Maybe there will be flashbacks or he is reincarnated in something? No one knows.

Reincarnated in a machine yes, and wishes he could die cause he feels he is missing out on the biggest mystery in the universe.
Read that somewhere a long long time ago about Portal 2.
