Idea: Portal Multiplayer
Quote from Ricotez on June 22, 2008, 4:07 pmFor KILL KILL KILL they have CSS, DoD and TF2. If you only want to KILL KILL KILL you're not playing Portal anyway.

i'm just talking about a multi-player mod making it, and typically people want to interact with other people.... by kililng them.
Like i said COD's ideas were actually pretty good. the only way i think portal MP would work is in some sort of co-op mode.

Quote from zztucozz on July 5, 2008, 5:17 pmMaybe we could add the KILL KILL KILL with thinking... So that Both players are in different rooms (laberynths) And in the labyrinths there are lots of bottoms jumps and all that. So if you press a bottom the other player gets a shock-wave or something and losses health (this means no regenerative health) or adding rocket-launcher, all that things. And try to kill the others with your team, resolving puzzles and that. The more puzzles you resolve a new map will be added to you to play. Or could be a random map...

Quote from pestchamber on July 5, 2008, 5:54 pmlol ok you are in 2 different rooms. if you were like 10 people on the server. 5 is in ea room. then you solve puzzles in these rooms and when you done that you reach a button to make the ones in the other room lose hp. until 1 team win. when you press the button you are teleported to start in a fizzler so your portals get closed.
EDIT: i mean of course.. theres alot of puzzles and a button in the end of ea one

Would that get too easy after a while for people who have played it more than once? After you learn the puzzles you are pretty much guaranteed to win. Wouldn't work at all, imo. Not on a fun factor or working factor.

Quote from Doomsday192 on July 5, 2008, 8:11 pm(for once) i understood that
what hes saying is:
have 2 teams, each with an identical puzzle series. at the end of the puzzles is a button, which kills the other team when pressed.
so its basically a race to the finish to kill the other team

Or just have a random timer (longer timer simulates playing against babies, shorter against Lorithad) under which to complete the puzzle, and if the timer runs out, you die.
My, doesn't that sound like fun.
Quote:[Portal Project Lead Kim] Swift also stated that the team creating the Portal sequel are currently deciding upon the design they should implement and that a multiplayer Portal "from a technology standpoint is possible", though Swift had previously stated they tried a Portal multiplayer variant, but admitted that "Honestly, it's less fun than you'd think."

Quote from Bulska on July 6, 2008, 9:46 amWe need a poll...
I can easily imagine loads of fun gametypes for portal multiplayer. The problem with having fun with portal multiplayer is mostly dependent on the map. If there's modular floors and walls everywhere it's no fun. There should be metal floors to be safe on too.
Many people say that portal is a puzzle game and is not about shooting other people. That is true, but that doesn't have to mean that the Portal Gun can't be used in combat multiplayer games without having fun.

Portal did so well, cuz it filled a void in todays modern gameing. there are plenty of FPSOMP games out there. We (atleast I) love this game cuz its smart, funny (albeit dark, and dry (which is what i like))) and makes you think. The question shouldn't be: CAN you make portal multi-player. but SHOULD you?
