Need a good audio codec

Title says it all. I tried LAME but the quality still sucks. I want one that can let ME choose the bitrate. Also, all the ones I try makes the audio go out of sync after a while.

BTW: Video is ffdshow Single Pass Q = 1 60 fps and yes I do have sufficient FPS to record at that rate. (I get about 250 in portal)

I hate hanging with angry people. Why live life if your not having fun ALL the time? =)
