well here's how mine is set up... the section that you can't finish reading ends with "portal.fgd" everything else you can see.

You should not have to manually edit any settings.

You were right, actually. i remember i had to make it use the ep1 engine before to fix a problem i had earlier, so i removed that from its launch options and then it worked! now i have portal mapping up and running, yey. Now i have to remember how to map, and learn how to map portal style.
