Particles Manifest
Quote from Endear on May 14, 2011, 2:13 pmHello people! I've been visiting this webpage for quite a while but never felt the need to register, until now. I need, if possible, your help since I've screwed up =/,
I downloaded the Take-Off map for Portal 1 and accidentally extracted it to the Portal 2 folder, replacing my particles_manifest.txt with the one that came in the zip. Now, there are particles that don't show (instead I see big red Xs everywhere). I'd appreciate if any of you could give me a copy of their particles_manifest.txt. The file has nothing you wouldn't want to share. As far as I know, it just shows the game which the particles are so it can use them.
The file can be found in Steamsteamappscommonportal 2portal2particles and it is called particles_manifest.txt.
I read the rules and found nothing against asking for a game file (unless it is illegal content? I don't really know if it is, is it?).
Thanks, at least, for reading.EDIT: I've noticed I put this in the wrong forum, right? I saw help and discussion but somehow missed the "mapping". Where should I put this? Or will it be moved? Still, it's a simple thing I'm asking for...

Quote from Nacimota on May 14, 2011, 2:37 pmI see no harm. I shall attach the file to this post.
For future reference though, if you're using Vista or Windows 7 you should be able to get the original via Previous Versions. Or you could just delete it altogether and verify the game files using steam.

However, what you could have done is to "Verify Game Cache" on the Portal 2 files. This would have restored your content back to it's original stock version and wiped out any accidentally overwritten files. It won't delete anything extra, IE custom maps. Just files that are shipped with the game that aren't identical to how they should be.

I don't think it's something Valve would get upset over. I'll try not to do it in future though.
