Portal 2 Mechanics remade for Portal.

Hi guys, its been a while.

Out of curiosity, I wanted to take a short break from Blue Portals and join the rush to remake Portal 2 for Portal. I know I got mentioned a lot up on Facepunch a lot even though I'm not a part of that mess. So I decided to share it here:

Aerial Faith Plates (Attempt)

Excursion Funnel (Attempt)

Diversity Vents (Vid 2)

Thermal Discouragement Beam

Now although I don't have all the textures right to the bone, in the Diversity Vents and the Discouragement Beam maps, I studied the Portal 2 videos and was able to remake the map to the very unit the best I could.

Before you go all: "Wheres the download link?" These are not very. . . Public ready. That is, it breaks if you do something stupid. Now, When I mean "break" I don't mean "door will not open", or "If you place a box here, this will happen", etc I mean the game will crash.

I'm thinking about going back and try to fix these errors, however It will subtract time from Blue Portals and I really don't wanna waste any more time. (Also, Colossal would kill me.)

Certainly not as awesome as valve's, but very impressive nonetheless. :thumbup:

So, how did you manage to get the funnel going through the portal?

I took some Sorcery in the 3rd grade. :P

Its actually a set of entities its kinda a BP secret.

Thermal Discouragement Beam: env_beam, OnTouchedByEntity, !activator and Ignite
Excursion Funnel: parent attachment to portal

I have an idea to fix that player speed when going through the funnel- make 2 seperate trigger pushes, 1 for the cube, 1 for the player, and set the player one at a higher speed.

Dear god... If you had made it before the release of Portal 2... It was possible. All that was needed was an idea.

I can't really understand the trend with people wanting to remake Portal 2 gameplay mechanics for Portal 1. Eventually the game is going to come out, and this isn't going to matter even the slightest. You would be better off spending your time thinking about a Portal 2 map design idea, or layout etc than actually trying to recreate this stuff. Theres really no point in doing it when it's already going to be ten times better in Portal 2.

Currently working on Darksiders 3.

I have to kind of agree. It's really cool and all, but if you're not going to release it and if it's going to be obsolete in 6 months, why waste the time?
