Quote from Arachnaphob on August 20, 2014, 1:18 pmFirst off, you're not gonna get any good DAW for free. On the scale of an entire mkd, you'll want something that is capable of a lot. Also, I agree with experience>software to an extent. Bad DAWs limit your creativity. A DAW is good when you can quickly put down and experiment with ideas. Think of it this way: imagine playing a game on a crap computer VS a good one, and you're the best gamer in the world. The crappy computer would have a low frame rate and may continually crash the game, while a good computer would have a high frame rate and run a stable game.. For these reasons, I'd recommend cubase. There's three versions, each with a different price. Of course, if you're still looking for something free, I hate to say this, but if you have a Mac, use garageband.

Quote from Arachnaphob on August 21, 2014, 4:18 amI use Cubase, but everyone has a DAW suited for them. I may like Cubase, but you may like FL studio. It depends on the person.
Cubase 7.5: 500$
Cubase artist 7.5: 250$
Cubase elements 7: 100$
Cubase also comes with some pretty good instruments and synths, too.
http://www.steinberg.net/en/shop/cubase.htmlFL studio: Starting at 100$
http://www.image-line.com/flstudio/Ableton (Very hard to learn):
Push: starting at 600$
Live 9: starting at 100$
https://www.ableton.com/en/shop/Yeah, professional DAWs are pretty expensive :/ They do have demos though, so you could go ahead and find the one that suits you. Good luck!

Quote from Idolon on August 24, 2014, 10:42 pmI recommend Audiotool for free software. It's fairly easy to get started with, and can produce some decent sounding stuff. I personally use Sonar X3 Studio for my stuff, but that's gonna run you up $200.
There's a decent number of trackers you can get for free, but they're not the most intuitive tools to use. Still, they're an option.
