Portal sp mod suggestion.

Hey guys, I have been thinking about a portal singleplayer mod and thought I might just throw it out there. What I was thinking was that maybe, if you think it would be worthwhile, get a bunch of us to make a mod, completely from scratch. This would consist of different groups of people for certain fields of work such as mapping, lighting, audio..etc. so that the maps have the same sort of visuals. The format could be decided (the layout of the mod) maybe even adopt a different style to the original game where it isn't split up into lots of test chambers.

I was wondering what you would think of this and if anyone would be interested because I know a lot of us are busy in hammer already.

Have a think about it :P

A mod goes whole a lot further than just being good with Hammer. Of course, at the end, when you start mapping, good Hammerskills are a prerequiste. But before that...

Well...

Take a look at the links in my sig. I started progress on SkyLabs a few months ago, and I don't have anything to show yet, just because there's nothing to show.

Anyother day, another suggestion of something almost everyone has thought of.

So we've all thought it, but has anyone proposed we do anything about it yet? no...
I think that perhaps a Thinking With Portals mod would be a cool idea personally but its unlikely to take off because we can't code anything yet

Me has attempted coding, but it was, well,

You don't have to know coding, to do a great mod based on Portal.
Just bring together a modeler, 3 or 4 mappers, a leader/marketer who knows what he does, someone who can write stories, dialogues and stuff, and an animator whose job would be to make NPCs move and talk (if needed, because with glados, everything is simpler)...

That would make it a good thing to do here. We've got loads of good quality mappers and probably a few people clued up on models. I know that I and others have what it takes to make textures, we've got a few musicians and sound engineers so we've got everything we need in reality

No, not everything. We're lacking tools.
Valve doesn't seem to be releasing them anywhere soon. Especially everything that gravitates around that Orange Box Source Engine. Basically, we only have Hammer. And that's not sufficient to make a full mod. Personally, I'm stuck since a month or so with subtitles.. just because they're not able to release a damn 115 KB program.
(like I said here)

Surely it is possible, what about the mods being released at moddb, and they are full reconstructions just about. Or are they just doing it with mass coding. Anyways, I think that we have the right people for it here, and think its it very possible to pull off.

Well, I could do the storywriting part, I've discovered I got quite a talent for that.
