For quite some time I've been experiencing random crashes in Portal 2. Some of them happen when I try quick saving/quick loading, some of them while ending a chamber. Normally, it wouldn't be a problem - I'd just kill the process from Windows Task manager. But this one is different. I cannot kill it from Manager. Waiting doesn't really help, and besides that there is some sort of overlay that makes it unable to use any other function of windows, click any icons, etc.

Has anyone here experienced anything similar?

Before you ask: I tried posting on Steam support, and got no response. I did the usual stuff: i tried installing/reinstalling Portal 2, on different disks, verifying cache etc., I kept my drivers updated, and whatnot.
