[Release] Sonic and Tails Player Models
Quote from TheRunningDafini on April 23, 2011, 10:41 amPossibly the first, or one of the first skins made through Portal 2 ever to do with models. Just saying, mainly because I see literally nothing around on skinning for Portal 2
Either way, made a freakish discovery for making skins for Portal 2... Practically the same model and layout that Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 have.
So, the fortunate/unfortunate thing is that the models that replace both the playable Multiplayer bots are Sonic and Tails. Sonic for Atlas, Tails for P-body
Not perfect rigs, but they work
Main issue is if you do a combined animation (hi-five, hugging) they will glitch to the same spot momentarily. this is because Atlas' model is not currently decompilable. it gives me an error.Releases are here:
http://www.2shared.com/file/X-beTzoB/so ... tails.html
To install, place within your steam/common/portal 2/portal2 directory the contents of your sonic and tails zip file. if anything asks to replace then press "yes". should not replace anything. or if so, nothing vital.
then you will need to either download Notepad++ to do the next step, or...
http://www.2shared.com/file/fQgY465T/for_replacing.html which you can place the contents in the same directory as above. before doing that however, or even pressing yes to overwrite, Back Up your copy of the pak01_dir.vpk. copy it, and place it somewhere safe where it will not be overwritten or destroyed.
This method means, however, that you cannot use other skins at the time. This is where Notepad++ will come in handy. I will set up a specific tutorial with these instructions too.Open up pak01_dir.vpk with only Notepad++ to do these changes. original notepad or even wordpad will ruin the coding on any edit.
Next step is to find the model name that will be replaced. in this case, press ctrl+F and search for the model names: ballbot and eggbotYou should run into four of each type that are between nulls. in other words, you will have 4 instances of the word "ballbot". not playerballbot or anything with a before or after the ballbot. now, edit each "ballbot" and give it a number 1 to make "ballbot1". this will stop the game overriding this model over your chosen skin. do the same with eggbot, with "eggbot1" in all four.
Work this out, and you should have a working skin like I have here:

***UPDATE***
Additional Skins will go here. The downloads are within the videos
