[Review] PMK 5
Quote from Siiig on May 12, 2009, 7:42 pmI love Portal, I love this site (though I've only been here a few days), and I love the maps you guys are still putting out. MSleeper gave me permission to try out reviewing, so I figured the most recently released map would be a good pick!
Here we have the fifth iteration in the PMK series by mazk1985. A year in the making (apparently) we have this amazing map. Visually pleasing, very straight forward, a good diversity of puzzles, and well made to prevent the use of (some) exploits.
The map is split into two very large chambers, each containing puzzles that revolve (mostly) around the use of cubes. The first puzzle in the chamber offers a taste of how good the maps puzzles in this map are, and also gives insight to the cake pieces system, which I must say is very cool! This is the first map I've played that used the system, and I found it to be incredibly nifty.
For an experienced portal player like myself, this map took within the realm of an hour, and I found multiple exploits on my way. Although it's in my nature to use exploits (and with that said I find them to be easier to spot) they are most likely easy to fix, given the nature of the sploits. On a quick side note, I managed to find 4 of the 6 pieces of cake on my first run through.
Very very good puzzles, nice length and mix of said puzzles. A nifty cake piece system (if this is old, my bad, it's the first time I've seen it). Challenege maps, and two bonus maps to boot! Beautifully design, and attention to detail.
I know as a reviewer, I'm supposed to complain about SOMETHING...lets see what I can find. There was only one puzzle in the map that I found to be challenging, the two button room puzzle, but it was only because I wasn't thinking straight. So the maps were to simple, but honestly, at least it was fun!
Game Play: Good overall, with great cues - 5/5
Design: Fantastic design, good ambiance - 5/5
Puzzles: Simple, but fun with replay value - 4/5
Can't wait to see more![note] I put this in general, because the review forum is locked, tell me what you guys think!

Quote from Siiig on May 13, 2009, 8:57 pmMe and Kich are good friends in real life, I would most likely be the only one doing them had I not mentioned it (He likes criticizing things =D). I don't even know if anyone cares about the reviews, I just figured I would try it out and see what happened.
