[SP] Malaki's War Axe
Quote from Haggis on March 26, 2015, 4:32 pmMalaki's War Axe
________________Malaki was a great warrior chief of the Mexica people. A nomadic tribe that would eventually buiLd their settlement in the valley of Mexico. Not content with the land they occupied, they started conquering neighbouring tribes in order to expand their empire. Soon, the entire valley of Mexico was under their control. Legend has it, the reason for their astonishing success in battle, was Malakis choice of weapon. A battle axe, which was a gift from their War God, Huitzilopochtli (Wheatsi-Lo-Poacht-Le).
Malaki and the Mexicas were unstoppable, seemingly invincible, until. Hernan Cortes, in charge of many Spanish battle ships landed in Mexico, bringing with him trained soldiers and superior weapons.
A fierce battle raged for weeks, claiming many lives on both sides, but eventually Malaki was defeated.
But it was not from a bullet from a Spanish rifle, but from smallpox, a disease the Spanish had brought with them on their ships. Fearing their brave leaders weapon would be used as a symbol of their defeat, they hid the axe in the hope no one would ever discover it.After years of tracking down false leads, i have eventually managed to track it down to an old abandoned Apperture Science Lab, in the Lacandon Rainforest. This is a TombRaider inspired map with a whole lot of custom content. The map consists of 2 puzzle rooms, and a main room where the axe is. Solve the 2 rooms to get to the axe.

Requiemsoul - My maps would not play the way they do if it was not for his input.
Josepezdj - Another great contributor to the way the map plays. Thanks also for taking
the time to make my custom singage a lot less pixilated looking, and for
changing the axe to .smd format. Also, your propper mod, if it was not for this
mapping tool i would never have been able to make the map the way it does.Thankyou to everyone who contirbuted towards this map, cheers guys.
Looking forward to your comments.B2 - Added an Open/Close glass panel in smaller puzzle room to stop an exploit found by jgaultney
Made glass bigger in bigger puzzle room to stop players crossing over it using the funnel
Added a grate texture near the laser catcher to stop players funneling over there. Thanks Quatrus for your
videos for these 2 exploits.B3 - Made the glass bigger again, players can still jump over the glass
Made a portable surface non portable in the smaller room, where the alcove is with the grated texture.
Both exploits found by Yuuubi, thanks.B4 - Brought out the 2 cliff textures a bit more to stop players getting behind area
underneath the axe. Moved the Apperature door back a bit at smaller puzzle room
to stop a fizzler glitch at the 2 portable areas. Fixed the white lines you could
see at the skybox. These were found by DaMaGepy, thanks.
A custom surface which should not have been portable was, edited .vtf file, found
by Fatso
There are now 2 solutions to get the cube into the glass cage, one easier than the other
thanks Sleter for this alternative solution.B5 - Missing textures at glass in big puzzle room, spotted by Der HammerMeister
Changed a floor button to a cube floor button in smaller room, preventing
an unintentional solution, found by otahitie.

Quote from quatrus on March 28, 2015, 7:09 pmThe workshop version played perfectly - two separate chambers with a solution for each to access the Axe. Not very easy and maneuvers which I usually consider among 'ninja' in the second chamber appear to be intended
glass wall walking
?
Visually this map is a masterpiece ala Tomb Raider... Only thing to add might be a music or appropriate sound track?
Thanks for creating another exciting map.

Quote from PCdoc on April 22, 2015, 8:16 pmExcellent rendition done in a sort of "Knights of the Round Table" storybook environment. You halfway expect to see Rapunzel when you round the corners. That in itself is cool enough - but the puzzles are VERY puzzling indeed. The first chamber is a medium-hard and the 2nd is a bit harder. Expect a long sit-down when you play this - unless you are a Portal Guru.
Thanks for the wonderful Map !!!

Quote from HMW on May 6, 2015, 2:44 pmThis map has an awesome visual style, with all those custom textures and models. Also, very creative use of displacements! The puzzles are pretty challenging. (My solution for #1 was a bit different than the one shown in the video, but I can't remember it exactly.)
My only (minor) complaint is that the entrances to the puzzle rooms are a bit hard to find. (But then again, maybe that's another nod to Tomb Raider
Another thing that is done well is that the decorations don't get in the way of the puzzle solving. It is always clear when an area is just there for decoration and you're not supposed to go there.
All in all, very nice work!
