Speculation with portals

Then you stand right in between the two(right in the middel of them) and then lets say the walls were to slowly move closer to each other, so they would crush you(you know some Indian Johns shit)
What would happen by the time the two portals meet with you standing inbetween them??? Both in game and in reality?
in-game, the portals would disappear as soon as the walls started to move.

Quote from Shmitz on January 19, 2008, 11:40 pmYou would be crushed, but the more gruesome aspect of it is that it wouldn't be the walls or the portals doing the actual physical crushing, but yourself.

Quote from Ricotez on January 20, 2008, 9:37 amYes indeed, once the portals hit each other, there's one, long, uninterrupted tunnel of portals with no space in between. And that space in between is where your body has to be. When there's no space... well... like Shmitz already said, you would crush yourself.
That's funny about Portal. You gotta think about space in whole another way.

let's speculate on a couple more ideas...
so the game specifically doesn't allow ... portals in portals... or >1st order portals... or sets of more than 2 portals.
but if you were a game designer... and you were going to take it to the next "logical" level, where would that go?
for example, lets say you could throw not 2 but lets say up to 8 portals at any time... and they could be orange and/or blue...
lets say you make a rule... you'll always land in the closest blue portal if you go in an orange one...
and you'll always land in the furthest orange one if you go in a blue one....
how might that play out?
what would 2nd or 3rd order portals look like?
ok.

Quote from JLipimpski on February 2, 2008, 8:04 pmTake a portal gun, then take two space stations. propel them both way the balls out in space, exactly 1 light year apart, then have them stop. a team takes the portal gun to station A then fire a portal at a wall, then go to station B, fire another portal there. when you enter the portal, assuming the stations are about a light year away from each other, will the teleportation be instantaneous or will the person entering the portal pair seemingly disappear for a year before they come out of the other end due to the theory of relativity?

the only reason the portal gun shoots out a portal at such a slow speed well that's because of game play, not because of fisycs (fictional physics) constraints.

Quote from JLipimpski on February 2, 2008, 10:25 pmSounds convincing enough, i guess. i agree that the reason portals shoot like they do is purely game play as well.

Quote from Ricotez on February 4, 2008, 7:36 amPortals do NOT speed you up. They connect 2 places in the third dimension through the fourth dimension. You essentially "jump" over that light year of space. If you put a step through the portals, that's exactly what you did: put 1 step. The only special thing you did is "skipping" 1 lightyear of space when you put that step.
Portals really require whole another way of thinking.
