Speculation with portals
just because you can connect to the 4th dimension does not mean that you get to have a shorter distance between any two 3d points.
take for example a piece of paper, the surface of which is basically 2 dimensional, and then draw a line between 2 points. if you then took a piece of string between those two points, the string would have to be longer than the line, if you kept the paper flat. bending the paper up to shorten the length between the points in 3 dimensions, would be a seriously energy intensive task, moving a whole universe to pin two points together. i do not really see how you can start pinning multiple points of an entire universe together like that anyway unless you had enormous amounts of energy to spare. even so, how do you bend an entire universe?

nope no matter how much you bend a universe in higher dimensions the residents of the lower dimensions won't notice anything.

that just made me actually laugh... my parents gave me a funny look... >.>
Anyway, i think i have a new application for portals. The military could use it as a way to fire missiles from one centralized location in their country, and have troops with portal guns somewhere else and they would only fire one color... they would fire a portal at a suitable location to fire missiles from, radio in to create the other color portal back at base in their country, and then they would fire missiles to their location, making missile launching easier and less susceptible to attack.
Thats a stupid idea!
Heres why:
A crack team takes out the soldiers with said portal guns and then uses them and radios back to launch the missle, only uh oh! its in their own back yard!

meh, portals in real life would still be the shit. like fo real.
me+portal gun+midwest ski area (its all flat... basically)=portal at top of mountain, portal at bottom of mountain, never actually stop skiing, just go through portals (i'd have to build up a li'l jump to jump into the portal at the bottom... but it'd be so awesome. I want Colorado's mountains, in Illinois.)
