Speculation with portals
Quote from TiMeMaSTeR on October 28, 2008, 4:29 pmBut then that ruins the whole point of "light does not spill out of portals in the game" thing, but it would fit the story line. But maybe GLaDOS only has control of the testing areas, or maybe she can't control the lighting and it was maintained by Aperture.

Quote from TiMeMaSTeR on October 28, 2008, 9:18 pmHere's an interesting concept: What would happen if you put a portal on Xen, then went back to earth and put the other portal on earth? Would the two universes collide into a multiverse-rocking explosion? Would it actually work? Would the different laws of physics in the universes change our universe of universe (that's what I call this universe; dont ask why.)?
Im not called timemaster for nothing...

Quote from Hober on October 28, 2008, 9:37 pmXen is just another planet in our universe (or, rather, the Half Life Earth's universe). So, assuming that portals can be placed arbitrarily far away while in the same universe, I see no problem.
The entire joke is that Black Mesa's teleportation and Aperture Science's portal tech were working towards the same ends.

Quote from TiMeMaSTeR on October 28, 2008, 10:01 pmbut isnt Xen cosidered another universe? For one, the laws of phisics are different in Xen, impling its another universe. Also, aren't the combine from another universe, anyway? The consiquences for mixing universes are already shown in portal storms. And doesnt the Black Mesa teleportation use at least some aspects of string theory? I belive mossman said somthing on that. Im gonna hafta look for that quote.
Now, Xen aside, what would happen if you placed one portal in one universe and another in a different one? Would any of the previous things descibed happen? Or, would somthing entirely different happen?

Quote from TiMeMaSTeR on October 28, 2008, 10:17 pmActually there are different laws of physics because the gravity there only pulls DOWN, not all around a planetary body.
Or did you forget the earth is round? JK.
I personally think that our universe would combine with the other universerse: kinda like universal offspring (ew) and life as we know it would cease to exist.
As in: We would all die.

wikipedia defines the universe as everything that physically exists. So, you're implying the combine are not physically existing? There's no other universe. UNI-verse. ONE.
