Tube Breakout - an intermediate Portal map 1.0

Map Name - Tube Breakout
Difficulty - Intermediate
Map Creator - wyvern14 (contact me at @gmail.com">jletourneau.ld@gmail.com)

This custom Portal map was created with strict parameters:

- have a consistent difficulty level
- have player guidance (sound, visuals, usage of lighting that gives hints)
- have the same sounds and mechanics as Portal
- have the Portal "feel" without using anything that would seem gimicky, out of context. All in all, it had to feel like a Portal DLC and like it belonged in the game.
- nothing custom-made or imported that wasn't made by Valve

This was created as a school homework and isn't perfect, but I feel it now needs public guidance to go to the next level and make it as a solid portfolio piece.

Very nice map and some thought put into your puzzles.
I did run into a map glitch on a couple of the the metal doors, a bright flare like I was going outside the map (never did though), especially to the energy ball room?
In the room with the slide out portal surface over the goo, the walls up near the fizzler are portalable - didn't need to fling.

Hmm, those white flashes would be area portals, I will look at them again, especially the energy ball room one, and try to replicate the issue. Seems there is something iffy with those fizzler, I might have moved them too much and made the wall portalable by error, will definitely look into it!

Not a bad map but it's full of glitches (for example, consider the screenshot).
The ball catcher looked like it already had a ball in it (but without the blueish glowing effect)
The map didn't end properly; after the black-out, I was able to shoot portals, e.g. I was not dropped from the game
The cameras didn't fall when putting a portal beneath them
No portal bumpers
Misaligned textures
Weird lighting in the starting elevator
...and so on.
The three-cube puzzle looked familiar to me. Where have I seen it? :roll: :shock:
