Valve Hammer Editor help?
ohai.
I am making a map for Portal. It is going to be a maze. I think that if I work hard enough, it's going to come out fantastically. But I have a problem.
I download Portal from the free weekend deal. So it didn't come with Source SDK. I had to download an old, cracked version of Valve Hammer Editor. I do indeed realize that the newest version is Hammer World Editor, but I could only find Valve Hammer Editor. Anyway, on with the problem.
I'm trying to set the program up. But I can't find the following:
- Portal texture files (.WAD) (Yes, I know that they are inside .GCF files and that I need GCFScape to get it, but I can't find the .WAD files inside any of the GCF files for source games!)
- Portal Game Data files (.FGD) (Again, probably inside .GCF files, but again again, I can't find it!)

well, if you're using an old version of hammer, it likely won't work right.
not sure if WAD's are necessary. If you are using the current version of hammer it should load the textures once you specify the gameinfo.txt directory.
as for the fgd's, mine is in /%username%/sourcesdk/bin/orangebox/bin/
seeing as you don't actually own the source sdk, it probably won't be there.

Do you know where I can download the full SDK and / or the newest version of Hammer? I was afraid I'd need the actual thing. Or maybe someone could like make a hacked account to put permission for Source SDK in it? LOL, JK, not gonna happen unless someone's super bored and feels like hacking something xD. WAD files are what Hammer used back in the GoldSrc days. Mapping for Source with GoldSrc hammer is simply not going to work. Your best bet is to download Alien Swarm which is free and use its hammer or buy Portal.
As we said in your last thread, you can only get the SDK if you own a legit Source game. The free Portal doesn't work, and I don't think the free versions of HL2:DM work either. Buy one of the many Source games, all of them are worth it.
It's illegal to distribute the SDK without owning one of the games, and asking for pirated content is way against the forum rules. This is your one warning.

I'm getting GMod and HL2 tomorrow, so I will use that tut to get Portal working. Thanks for everything, guys! (No, I'm not trying to be an ***hole and say that as in "Thanks for nothing, jerks." I'm seriously saying thanks! =) )
Actually guys...I got my portal during the free weekend deal last year. My source SDK runs perfectly and works with HL2DM textures and everything else.
