Quote from youme on March 30, 2008, 2:36 pmI have a feeling that our particular star has a name... *looks it up*
hmm it would appear the best 'name' for the sun is Sol (latin for sun) which would make it 'The Sol system' and the planets would be named as follows:
Mercury - Sol I
Venus - Sol II
Earth - Sol III
Mars - Sol IV
Jupiter - Sol V
Saturn - Sol VI
Uranus - Sol VII
Neptune - Sol VIIIunfortunatly since that pluto noncense isnt a planet anymore we don't get onto X's which is a pitty really because not enough roman numerals reach IX
Edit: Yup just checked out some other sources and it seems that it isnt 'official' as such the generally accepted 'name' for the sun is Sol and Luna for the moon. (It isn't simply 'the sun' because sun is never capitalised so it can't be a proper noun)
