[WIP]Bizob's First Map

Well here it is, my first go at mapping for Portal. Nothing fancy here just a short simple one to get my feet wet. Still need to add a few things:
1) 1st room is missing a lamp hanging down from the ceiling.
2) I want to replace the static clocks with countdown clocks.
3) I can't seem to get the platform supports (those cylinder/piston type things) right.
4) A few sound issues in various places.
5) Add support structure for moving platform.

Feel free to download and let me know what you think. Bear in mind that this map wasn't designed for actual play, in fact it wasn't really "designed" at all. This is just me throwing some stuff together to learn how to use Hammer.

First off, your .bns file points to the wrong spot. I had to load the map through the console.

I'm not entirely sure how you wanted me to finish the level, but I'm kind of hoping it doesn't involve tunneling like I had to do.
The "moving" platform didn't move for me. I pushed the button on the bottom by the goo, but nothing happened.

The goo is kind of shallow. It's usually nice to be able to drown/disolve in it.

There's no immancipation field before the end elevator, and there's no WCC incinerator.

Other than that, I thought the map was very plain. But not that bad over all.

Well it is just a work in progress.

I think I fixed the path in the .bns. I'm about to test it.

The button at the bottom is going to activate a door or something like that to allow for the big jump to be made. What do you mean by tunneling?

Sorry, only logged-in users can see spoilers.
I still have to learn how to do the emancipation field and the incinerator will replace the last button. Also there is no re spawn for the CC in case it gets dropped in the goo (which will go deeper). I agree it's a very plain map, I need to break up some of those big walls and add some eye-candy. I doubt I'll do too much more with this one other than getting it playable. This started out as a little assignment I gave myself, I think you can tell what that was.

Edit: I simplified the .rar file so that it doesn't create any folders just puts the .bsp and the .bns in the maps directory.

I know you're not the first to do it, but I don't understand the need to recreate the start of Portal in a custom map. You did it well, but it seems kinda pointless.

I didn't know what to do in the big room with the goo. There was a button that did nothing. Overall the map has good potential, but as already stated, is very plain atm.

I wouldn't call it a need. I just thought it would be a good way to learn some stuff and I had no idea what else to do.

I'm gonna fix it up some more, get things functional and dress it up a bit next week.

Cool, well as I said it looked pretty good and you recreated it quite well.

Just played this map, I second what the others have said about it.

Also, I played the least portals challenge using 6 portals, but there was nothing at the end to tell me if I got 1st,2nd,3rd place.

Thanks to everyone for downloading and playing my map and for your comments.

Well you'll have to forgive me for that one. I didn't really setup the challenges, I just copied a bns file and changed the map names. Since I don't really understand how to setup the challenges yet (I'll get to it soon enough) I may just take them out for now. If it's simple to fix I'll leave them in.

6 Portals is either very good or I really have some work to do, I'll give us both credit for this one and just say your damn good;)

Also the next update will include the map source so you guys and gals can take a look at it. What I'm really after here is some input on what I'm doing right or wrong with my mapping. Since I'm new to this I figure I might as well start with good habits.

Edit: Version 1.2 uploaded.
