There are some problems with the map. VRad was bombing so no HDR for now. (I just want to get this thing uploaded so I can go to sleep!) Once I get HDR working I'll probably need to tweak the lighting some.
Problem #2: It's my first map and I'm new to mapping, more or less. (I did a little with UnrealEd for Deus Ex but that's it.)
#3: The x.x megawatt button sticks once in awhile...? Dunno why it happens.
#4: There is some annoying invisible thing that clips the player's movement right in front of the ball catcher. This will not affect gameplay.
This is a medium-length map with two endings. In one you die, in the other, cake. I know forcing death is a dirty trick. Sorry. Realizing your cake involves the companion cube.
To install:
Download the zip file and unzip it. The resulting file is a 'egg_level01.bmz'. This contains the .bsp, .bns and .tga files (and a README.) I don't have any challenges set at this time.
1) Place the egg_level01.bmz file anywhere on your system (recommended: root level of your hard drive, or else your ...SteamSteamAppsSUBJECT_NAME_HEREPortalPortalmaps directory)
2) Start Portal and click on the 'Bonus Maps' button.
3) Click the 'Import Maps' button and navigate to the location you saved 'egg_level01.bmz'. Select the file.
4) Open the 'egg_level01' folder in the Bonus Maps section.
4) Double-click the 'egg_level01' map.
5) Enjoy!
To Uninstall:
Navigate to your Portal maps folder and delete the egg_level01 folder. (Make sure and shut down Portal first.

Quote from eggrock on March 11, 2008, 9:42 amThanks. Do you mean you didn't know when it dropped? Easy enough to add an indicator for that--actually I'll need to rework the box dropper but it needs redoing anyways.

Quote from eggrock on March 11, 2008, 10:52 amAh, I see.. It's a *really* cheap trick that I don't expect anyone to get. It's in there more for me to learn than to be a real part of the challenge.
drown a certain turret

and OMG i LOVE the kick-turret button!! haha, but btw. there is a visual glitch on that thing. if you get up there beside the wall that kicks the turret the pole behind it (that drove the wall) can be seen "through" the wall.
The companion cube comes from the same place the other cubes do. No need to backtrack to get it.
