Models invisible

I've been copying some models from the first Portal game into portal 2. In the model browser it shows up invisible, not missing texture, INVISIBLE! I put the texture files into 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal 2\portal2\materials\models\props\props_bts' since it was arranged like this in the Portal vpk. The models are at 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal 2\portal2\models\props\props_bts'. It would be nice if I could have some help. I have googled it too.

Do you mean that they do not appear in the game, but are still solid if you walk into them? Or do they seem to not be there at all?

Check the console when the map starts. Does it say any models were removed?

You should make sure the paths are the same; and besides the models themselves you also need the materials!

This is due to a .vtx error. Make sure all vtx files are there. (dx80.vtx, dx90.vtx, and sw.vtx) Although Portal 2 models only have the sw and dx90 files, the Portal 1 models need the rest due to it being compiled with older compiling tools for an older engine branch.

Also, make sure it is in the same location as it was in Portal 1, which can cause the same results.

They have all of the .vtx files. I am still a little unsure about where I should have put the vtf and vmt files I found for them though.

As the others said above, all that you have to do is to emulate the same path tree there was where you got the models and their textures, but under your Portal folders. When you can't even see the model in the model browser it's because you are not putting the model in its right place; when you see the model textured with checkerboards, then the textures aren't in their right place.

Can you say what is the model you are trying to enter into Portal so we can let you know how to proceed exactly?

I took the model glados_ball_reference.mdl (or the cores from portal 1), and put it into portal 2. I put it into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal 2\portal2\models\props\props_bts and I found vmts and vtfs for it and put them into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal 2\portal2\materials\models\props\props_bts. Oh and

That's your problem. Why did you create a props_bts 2 folder?

It's models/props_bts not models/props/props_bts.
