In Adobe Photoshop there is a tool which let's you place out notes which you can write on, anywhere on your picture. I often use this tool to write short notes about things to fix and things I don't want to forget.

Is there a similar tool or method in the Hammer editor?

There's a "comment" field on each entity for this purpose, although it's not often used. It's in the bottom right of the Properties dialog.

He is our mutual friend I always though the comment section was for additional entity commands, as it is with Milkshape 3D

Remember to not use quotes, it probably would still corrupt your vmf! You can also add comments to worldspawn, or to an info_null (an entity basically designed for this, it is deleted after it spawns).

It does, tested by accident some time ago

The info_null sounds interesting, I'll look into it. I'm looking for an entity that I will easily spot in a crowded area. Hopefully this'll work. Thanks guys!

I like to either:

Create a fake "NOTE" entity. It appears as a small purple and black checkered flag wherever you put it, and stands out in the map. Then I write what I want in the Comments section (creation is as simple as writing 'note' in the class section, as opposed to 'info_player_start').

Make an 'out of place' prop. Something eyecatching and large. Usually I'll set it to the ERROR model so I don't miss it. Then I write the note in the Comments section.

You could always add your "note" entity into a custom FGD and make it look however you please.

Or better yet, override the info_null for this purpose. It's removed by VBSP so you don't need to worry about the game reacting to it badly. (P2's reaction to invalid entities has changed over time, although it's never caused a crash or anything. Usually just console errors.)
