So everyone here releases or announces maps here on ThinkingWithPortals. Is there anyplace else where people here post or announce their maps? I've seen a couple of maps from here also posted on other sites. Do we have special relationships with any of the other mapping communities?

the one i personally recomend (aside from it being on the TWP homepage) is my APERTURE labs... aside from it being on the homepage it is also HOW i found TWP. i used to use it first. it has a good download database that allows comments, they have tutorials and wikis and such. its not as strong as TWP. but if not for them i might not have found TWP. plus their "upload" process is a little easier than here, as they are BASICALLY just a portal custom map download site (instead of TWP which is really an entire portal mapping community) so sometimes. maps will be released there... before here.

if i "ever" release a map. there are only two places that i will DEFINATLY release and thats here (TWP) and my aperture labs (i might release other places but these two are for sure)

Well, this is the only portal mapping community I'm hanging 'round so far. Personally, I find it hard to keep track of things if I'm around more than 2-3 forums at once, which I'm currently, all of different subjects. However, once I complete my current map project (no airboats yet, but lots and lots o' MALCom), I guess I'll only release it here for bug testing. If that works out all well, I'll start looking around for other places where I can release it, to reach an user base as big as possible.

If it's a Portal map, this is Home for it. But you can also put the map on Moddb and on your own website if you have one.

Agreed.

I considered releasing my map on other sites like Halfwit2 or Interlopers but since I've never registered there I thought it would be rude to register and immediately post my map. It might look like I was just there to promote my maps. I should register at both those sites because I've utilized them many times, almost as much as TWP.

My policy will probably be to release my maps here and after a few days post links to my map threads (here on TWP) on other sites. That way I can reach as many players as possible but still give my friends here at TWP first dibs and always point people back here.

Thats what I do, TWP is the main site to download our Stuff.

Everything posted there gets auto-10'd though.

only if its a surf map or orange map or some other stupid map like mario kart for tf2

anything that is a proper map that is acutally good gets a shit rating
