hi guys. Having a little trouble with the indicator strips. May just be trouble with the overlays themselves. I don't really know.

I place the overlays then choose the material and the brush faces and a few different things seem to happen: Sometimes it'll apply the texture but be stretched funny. Sometimes it wont apply it at all no matter where i put the overlay. Sometimes I just need to move it around to get it to appear. and they always seem to be too wide or distorted, and I can't seem to get them looking right. Any ideas (or solutions if this has already been asked)? Thanks.

make sure texture lock is off when you strech them out, because with it on it changes the size of the overlay instead of just tiling it

Also it really helps to select the material for the strip before creating the overlay.

HA HA! wow.. way to go! I can't believe I did that.

Suppose thats what I get for not having used hammer in over a year and a half. thanks a lot man. Made me feel like a moron but I guess I deserved it. Guess I'll get back to mapping then.

If they are not showing up when you run the game, then you have a leak.

I had overlays on my buttons on one of my maps, and I tried my dambest to make them work, then I found a leak, fixed it, and they've worked since.

The best way to figure out if you have a leak is to look in your compile log during VBSP because it will yell and scream at you that you have a leak.

I've had maps with leaks (plenty of times) and the overlays still showed up. Light emitting textures won't but overlays have never given me issues.

Back on topic: Besides using the overlay tool for overlays (ok, cheap shot there but I know u understand I couldn't resist) get to know the VEnd, UEnd VStart and UStart properties well. You can do some cool stuff easily and consistently with these bad boys.

This is on topic (I think):

When I put the incutor lights, the one on the wall gets "chewed up".
I think it's because I used the carve tool and I have mtipule walls. Is there any way I can get an overlay to appear on different walls (right on top of each other) at the same time?

Assign more faces to the overlay. I don't know how exactly is it called in Hammer (don't have it opened now), but there is a "face picker" icon using which you can pick more faces and the overlay will be fine then
