why has this thread become an argument about Hint/Skip brushes vs. Areaportals?
Because I'm why we can't have nice things.

I'm not debating that areaportals do split up visleaves. My argument is that, anyone who uses them for that reason instead of using a hint brush is a big retard and needs to read why you should use areaportals.
Then why are we arguing? I know better than to make that amateur mistake...lets get Mek!
I know what areaportals are and how to use them, the only reason they didn't work was because I was having leaks in my map.Okay, imho the thread is closed now, I think the arguments about hint/skip/areaportal/whatever brushes belong to a new topic

For future reference, hint brushes work better than areaportals.
Nice hijack :p

Okay, let me clear this up for you.Hint/Skip brushes - split visleaf at thier location. It's the only thing they do.
Areaportals - split visleaf at their location and can also be turned on/off to hide everything behind them.Appears to me that areaportals do everything a hint/skip brush does along with extras. That makes them pretty alike in my opinion.
Hint's do not render based on a view cone, which areaportals do. Therefore areaportals are better. Open up a TF2 map, and see the magic.

True, this is probably the biggest advantage of areaportals if they are always open.
