Box Catcher Prop needs work

As of getting back into portal mapping from HL2 mapping, I made a new element for puzzles. I made a box catcher that serves the same element as the button but it can be placed on walls and ceilings. I feel like it needs work though. Any ideas would be helpful. I was thinking of putting a orb catcher model in the tube. All I have now is a metal textured brush.

I did add the orb catcher to it. Now it looks better to me now.

Except for the unrealistic clipping of the arms of the catcher and the cube going through the catcher.

Yeah. I was trying to clip near the lining of the tube. I guess back to the original model for now. I'll may use the rail beam wall model. I must have something there thought. It looks unfinished with just the brush.

EDIT:

All I got to do is rase the nodraw so it does not wobble.

About the orb catcher, what you can do is to make the orb catcher model make the "catching an orb" animation so that the straight bars retract like it was the cube pushing the bars.

Really a cool gameplay element in design. I wanna see one of your maps out with this.

Yes, but however, the arms holding the bars clip out of the tube. but not a bad thought. I want to see how the model looks like when it is done with the orb catching animation then put it no the tube.

Also, this prop will be in my maps. Finishing level 00 now.

Nice new gameplay element, but remember to package the activation sound on release, since it is a HL2 sound.

you dont need to package hl2 stuff with a map! hl2 things are included in the base source engine GCF

hl2 things are even used in portal

True, but those HL2 items are also found in the Portal GCF, for if someone only owned Portal and not HL2, so extra HL2 items should still be packaged with the map for now.

So a button with walls? This is considered innovative?

I'm going to replace the sound. I only put it there so I don't spend most of the time looking for a file. I'll be going back and changing the file.
