Do you prefer Portal or Portal2? Why or why not?

I personally prefer Portal, mainly for the story. The atmosphere was very unique; you are isolated from the outside world. You may be the only human still alive on earth, and the only friend you have is the companion cube which you have to kill. While I have to admit Portal2 is better gameplay wise, which game do you prefer?

If there is already a thread like this my apologies, I just thought it would be interseting to see what the Portal community thinks.

Portal 2: More stuff to work with and is funnier.

Portal has a better storyline, but it's got to be portal 2 due partly to the greater variety of test elements and mostly cave johnson.

HL3 or Ep3 CMONNNNNNNN

Portal has the nostalgia value, and the charm of being that one odd little game out of the big package that isn't like the others, but stands out on its own as having the potential to be something great. Portal 2 puts that potential to use by having more and better of everything: more complex story, far longer campaign (and two separate ones at that), many more testing elements, an overall smoother puzzle setup IMO, and something about the atmosphere is just more attractive overall. Portal 1 ranks high on my list of all-time favorites; Portal 2 takes what Portal did and makes it even better. So it wins for me.

Give me EP3 already, but Portal 2 was way better than the first one. I was sceptical about that before it released. Was also quite surprised about the availability of good maps when I started looking for more Portal 2 after finishing the game!

I like portal 2 because of the story, new testing elements,
Portal was a great mod, but portal 2 was a great game out of the package.
And portal has so many glitches, you can win in 30 minutes.
AND YES GIVE ME EPISODE 3 ALREADY!!!!!'

Personally I couldn't choose. Portal's awesome because it started the franchise and has an incredible and radically unique environment, Portal 2 because it continues the story, adds fantastic new puzzles and elements, and brings closure (yet more mystery as well) to the story.

But yes. I do want Ep3/HL3 soon. Very soon.

I think spongylover meant that it was a modification of Half-Life 2, since it does keep a lot of the character models, data, npcs, etc. in it.

Maybe I sound like a parrot at this point, but it is a difficult choice. Overall I would have to say that Portal 2 is a better game. It has the most potential for puzzles with its new creative elements. But the original's atmoshphere was unrivaled by its sequel. Portal 2 sadly loses some of the mystery from the original through its sprawling story - I understand the reasons for a stronger story in a longer game, and I think it was done remarkably well, but it was the sense of complete alone-ness of the original that struck me as so unique. Portal 2 looks a lot nicer, though the plain textures of Portal seemed fitting at the time, adding to the emptiness of the facility. So while I say Portal 2 is better objectively, the original will always hold a place in my gaming heart.
Also, Portal 2 never came close to this. Just saying.
tldr; Portal is great in its own way, but Portal 2 expanded upon that greatness in many other areas.

Portal really didn't have much of a story though. Portal 2 was much longer, had great visuals, puzzles, and test mechanics, was funny, and had a great story.
