Spawn and destroy blocks to reconfigure the chamber and alter portal placement.
Hint: You can place portals on your blocks!
Otherhint: Stop asking about the gnome. If you find him, throw him at blocks to blow stuff up.

This originally started as a freebuild Minecraft style script with no actual objective. The announcement of the competition rules were the kick up the ass I needed to start from scatch and make an actual puzzle. Have fun, and good luck finding the Easter Egg area!

I originally wanted to make the blocks transparent.. (and actually spent a day or so figuring out how to have transparent blocks stop the laser) ..but unless the block is completely solid, the portals placed on them will be incredibly transparent. I'll keep you posted on that one!

Known Bugs :
There are a few known bugs-- ones which I have little or no control over.
If you find any more, or have any bright ideas please give me a shout!

--Can't place blocks right under yourself:
The tank entity used for aiming has some pitch limitations - for this reason I've included the little crosshair.

--Portals vanishing on solid (non block) walls:
I know right? Doesn't make so much sense!

Another very imiginative concept map. It took me a long time to figure out what I was supposed to do at first, perhaps because I've never played minecraft. And figuring out that the laser would eventually destroy the cube in its path also took quite awhile to figure out.

I experienced portals vanishing on both solid and block-built walls after I passed through them. It didn't hamper the play, but it was annoying. And was there some reason why some blocks were bluish and some orangeish? If it played any role in the solution, I never figured out what that role was.

And now I'm going to hunt down that easter egg and perhaps I'll also discover where that annoying turret is!

Cheers for the feedback Roger
I hadn't considered until now that maybe mixing orange and blue could be offputting and didn't look all that portalable. The colors are random, but I might go ahead and make them all shades of blue.

Oh, and p.s. There are 2 turrets hidden around the level

I wouldn't say it was off-putting, but it made me try to get walls all of one color to see if it made any difference or had any bearing to the solution -- it was just distracting, I guess.

Are you supposed to be able to do this:

Oh well, I've uploaded a copy with just 2 blue textures now - maybe it'll be a little more obvious.

The animal skinned one... unless that's a glitch... the exploding garden gnome killed me and then the turret was normal.

For any would-be judges, I'd like to point out that you shouldn't be playing contest maps until after submissions are closed.

This could probably go places. Like building a floor, and then smear it with blue gel. Quite a few possibilities I would assume.

This one is original and I love the design work put into it. I found it a little bit tedious, but then i assume it's based around minecraft, which I'm not a fan of. I always love that you're not afraid to come up with different ideas, though.

Awesome map, the chamber was well built and the idea was creative to mix Portal and Minecraft together. Really cool to put the Animal King Turret in the observation rooms. But, I have no idea what should I do to solve the puzzle. xP I played Minecraft before, only once a few months back. I'm not saying the map is bad or anything. I'm trying to say that the objective of the map was unclear.

Heh, I guess a few hints couldn't hurt.
-Put blocks where you see targets, they may block lasers for example
-Build a wall, you can place portals on it
-Destroy a wall to allow the portal to fire elsewhere, or at different angles
-Build your way up and jump into something

I get what you mean though.. it's quite far removed from regular portaling, but when you get the hang of it, it's surprisingly natural!
