Wheatley here. You're gonna love this. Seriously, I've outdone myself this time. I'm not going to tell you what I've done, though. You'll just have to wait and see! One thing I will say is that it definitely doesn't involve vacuum tubes going through portals. Not at all. Nope! Man, you're gonna be so surprised when you find out what it is.

This is the first map I've created from scratch in Hammer so please be gentle! If you spot any problems then let me know and I'll get them fixed as soon as possible. This is quite a tricky test, I think, but hopefully I've added enough hints in the chamber for you to be able to figure it out. In case you get really stuck, though, there's a video walkthrough below. There are a few ways of doing some parts so your solution may differ slightly from mine.

If you like the map, you'd be doing me a massive favour by rating it on my Steam page here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =171265388.

I should also say a massive "thank you" to everyone on this forum as, without your help (both direct responses to questions I've asked and incredibly useful threads I've dug up), I wouldn't have been able to figure out how to do many of the features in the map.

Your feedback will be very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Pilchardo

Wow! an excellent map. I especially like the large open environment.
I did get stuck for quite a while on how to get altitude for the final fling to the exit. I could see where I needed to be but couldn't figure out how to get over there: slipped in a new world to portal into. I tried some of my weak ninja to break the map but just couldn't get anywhere with that - well done!
Thanks for creating - excellent.

Excellent use of world portals! My only complaint is that it's possible to get yourself stuck all too easily by using the tractor beam wrong.

Wow, this is just awesome in general, nevermind as a first map

I love the compex and original design, the use of voice throught, the layout of the thing, all the attention to detail, and all the little touches like making jumps so tall you can't get them after jumping at terminal velocity (even if you've climbed onto the pipes/player clips and jumped from there!).
It doesn't feel too complex, or cramped, or complicated, and there's plenty to discover!

I absolutely bloody loved the way you used those world portals too; kinda sad that they've hardly ever been used that well in all of 2 years :\

No solution vid, but thanks muchly for making! Solid 5

Really really good map! I found it very creative with an amazing use of the world portals. Very well detailed and very loyal to Wheatley's theme. I loved the lighting as well, pretty well distributed and moody

To be honest, it took me more than I expected I guess it needs a bit to explore and to know how things work and such... I recorded my solution (felt pretty intended and straight forward):

Awesome map! You got 5/5 from me, and my attention for your next maps!

Keep the good work!

Thanks for creating!

EDIT

I forgot to mention: why didn't you add a FX sound to your lightboard? it's just an ambient_generic with the sound name set to 'VFX.OGSignFlicker' (from Game Sounds), then trigger it

I posted on the workshop page as well but wow, awesome, this is an incredible puzzle, very well thought it, the solution was always just out of reach and it was tricky without being frustrating, loads of "I solved it moments", the perfect difficulty with some gorgeous visuals and the best use of world portals I have ever seen.

Definite 5 out of 5
