First of all, I'd suggest you to place some lighting sources (props). It's strange when the light is just there without any source that is emitting the light. Also, have you seen any hallway in real life without any single fluorescent on the ceiling or walls?

In the case of that picture where there's a window, I'd suggest you to shoot the light from inside that room towards the hallway, that could give it a great shadowing effect. For this use a light_spot plus an env_projected_texture (remember to set "Shadows enabled"), and again, place some props that give sense to the lights...

Change the brightness scale parameter into the env_projected_texture and its colour/intensity until you are happy with the shadows and the lights...

In that picture you took from hammer, you should have selected the brightness parameter so we could have seen what values you have introduced... and we could be more helpful. I think that light you placed has so low intensity value.

Try to "Disable Shadows - Yes" from your prop_static/dynamic cable props? It usually causes those dark spots.
