I know of a way to cheat on the challanges, and still make them count. There is a large variety of commands that are not cheat protected:

Such examples are:

[list=]hl2_walkspeed
hl2_normspeed
sv_portal_placement_never_fail
sv_gravity
host_timescale[/list]

With these, i was able to get every challenge on gold.

i saw that on youtube for the xbox i thought it wouldnt work for pc.

All that time moving .001kmph stuck to the roof :'(

I found that if you activate the cheats, put yourself right next to the elevator at the end of the level and then save, you can exit the game, re-load it and bring up the saved game. The cheats are turned off at this point. Simply enter the elevator and it will count.
