Hammer autosave

It used to be that my hammer would automatically save my files that are in progress but for some reason it stopped doing that. I got a random error awhile ago and ever since when it crashes it only prompts me for the main file and not the autosave file.

I already verified the files on steam and it didn't help. Ideas?

Why are you trusting autosave? It always seems to capture the file's state right after you Ctrl-X something big to ut it in an instance.

Believe me, (hopefully I'm not alone in this) most Hammer mappers are used to saving their file every 20 seconds or so. Which is annoying when I'm posting here, because it keeps bringing up Firefox's "Save HTML" dialogue.

well yeah, it is instictive to repititiously save, especially for something that crashes a lot, but it's easy to forget when you are on a roll.

EDIT: and the forum double posted an edit for some reason.

Fracture, have you check into your hammer options if anything changed about automatic save?

Also, did you recently change hammer from location or changed the hammer folders' permissions (if you have W7 and the UAC is active maybe your problem is that hammer can't save in the folder because of lack of permissions...)

i wouldn't know anything about half of that, but i did delete the root autosave folder once and im guessing that is why this happened. is there a way to fix that?

Just create any new folder where you want to safe autosaves to and tell Hammer in it's options to use it for autosaves.

Hehe... that information would have been really useful in your first post when introducing the issue, don't you think?

Do as Skotty said to fix it. Check this.
