ok i was playing around in testchamber 17 to see if i could complete the level with the companion cube.. while trying i found a secret level. i think it was the original testchamber 17 but it got too easy or they got the idea with the companion cube. check it out here

@Youme- Valve is messy, they left lots of stuff in the source code too.

please tell us if you do! i also wonder why it is there. but it do look like a level they started on and then they left to the idea with the companion cube instead.. also it was near the last testchamber so it was a bit too easy to be testchamber 17.. of course we dont know if they planned to do more (they probably did)...

I don't remember a room being added, merely made more challenging....
my memory is wearing out isnt it [read: I haven't played the advanced chambers for over 6 months]

AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION!!!!!!!!!!

The Red Area is what you are talking about, the Blue area is where it is linked at in the ADVANCED CHAMBER

That is the ending of the advanced version of the chamber, nothing more.

First of all, holy fucking and great find.

I bet what happened was that was originally going to be in the actual map and they instead shortened it up and kept it there for the Advanced version.

It is indeed the extra part of advanced chamber 17. What I noticed though is compared to the rest of the chamber and to the rest of Portal, it is quite rough and unfinished. It has unfinished lighting, gaps in brushwork, the textures on the window frame are different, and some of the observation rooms are empty, not even a door. Also one observation room has some old HL2 models in it.

I know I'm being picky but Valve definitely rushed this part through to release compared to everything else which is very polished.

it looks like some combine or something was in the observation room .. the glass on the tv are broken
