Audacity is a free software for sound edition that can convert MP3 to wav, among many other things.
Now if you use something else (env_soundscape, logic_choreograph, etc) then maybe not; I dunno. But for ambient_generic, mp3 is not a problem (and its a LOT smaller)

Though I don't know why Hammer can't preview them.
It must be in relation with the LAME license of the MP3 group for their encoder/decoder.

Yep, but if you want to play a looping sound, you will have to use a WAV file. MP3 does not support Cue Points, and thus, does not support looping.
But the previewing error is probably why i was getting so pissed. It would have played in game, but not in hammer, correct?
Anyway, thats weird... but, if a mod would kindly close this thread, my problem is fixed, and this seems to want to become a random, ranting raving, throw whatever is in your head onto here thread.
