Anybody else planning on getting one or the other? I wasn't really planning to, but I saw they had the Gen I starters and was pestered by friends so I probably will.

Thoughts? Which version to get? etc...?

I am walking into a lion's den here, but to me, pokemon died at Emerald.

Too many of them now. I used to know all 151! Now I'm lost!
These mega-evolutions are a blight to the franchise. Pokemon is trying to be like digimon. It is horrible.
The time needed to sink into the game to complete a pokedex is too huge!
They have worn out the term "Legendary". There are now more legendaries than there are days in a month.

I have played/own Pokemon Blue, Silver, Crystal, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, Pearl and Platinum.

I have also played Pokemon Stadium, Stadium 2, Snap, Colosseum and XD - Gale of Darkness.

I have also collected many, many cards, marbles and DVDs.

So, no. I have not played the latest versions. but my history hasn't been free of the pokemon games, and I stand by my assertion. Pokemon died at Emerald.

I stopped caring about Pokémon since 2001. Friend of mine wants to get these games, but he is short of a 3DS.

X has been fine so far; most (most) of the new 'mon aren't totally fucktarded and the game is generally fun to play; I battled conro over the internet last night and the included voice chat feature (in a Nintendo game!?!?!) was better-quality than Skype (and probably had less NSA oversight).
