Protecting children from shit only leads to them continuing to not know how to deal with it. In other words, if she doesn't know how to deal with it now, and you don't teach her now, then she won't know how to deal with it next time.

Parents need to learn that protecting their children is NOT a part of their job! Well, at least not protecting them from emotional harm. Guidance is the key, not sheltering.
