I wanna be the guy is awesome, nuff said. It's not pretty, but the design is awesome.

I've made a map that has a lot of well-thought out design, eg design that puts a lot of thought into the puzzles, instead of just trying to make it look pretty.

Basically, it uses techniques like misdirection to put you off, and I never repeat anything twice. Each room has it's individual puzzle.

PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME I AM UNFAIRLY KILLING THE PLAYER.
I'm unexpectedly killing the player. There is a huge difference. You just gotta observe how I kill you, and then avoid that happening again.

It autosaves, so don't quicksave or it might mess up some stuff.
Eg, if you quicksave after activating the trigger next to the box that opens the door to the headcrabs, then load your game the headcrabs will no longer instantly kill you if they bite ya. This is due to the fact console commands starting with sk_.. aren't saved when the game is saved. I guess you can do this if you're having trouble, coz the headcrabs battle often relies more on luck than skill. Or, you could just keep going without killing them, and they'll all just catch fire anyway.

Let's face it, very few of you will actually get both or even one of the solutions to this map, so here's the walkthrough, with both solutions:

I spent a LOT of time playtesting this map, so please don't just disregard it

But rest assured, there will not be a volume two, unless people want me to, of course XD

i tried playing the pre-release/wip or whatever and it was complete crap and completely unplayable no walls missing textures etc. i HOPE this is better. i'll play it soon.

Nodraw/Out of area (Black) part of the map is a bad idea! I believe you should go back and learn the basics.

Yeah, I'd like to say if you're gonna do something like this in PORTAL you should capitalize on surprise deaths rather than frustrating the player. Make them enjoy being killed, or at least laugh at it.

And to think I made an iwbtg inspired portal map without a single spike :O

Well.. I'm starting from scratch, but this time you'll be able to use the portal gun a lot more and the puzzles aren't so stupid.

And there will be spikes

More nicely done. But is the floor lifting up causing a leak? Make sure to keep your maps closed in from the black outer space. Think of your map as a village and think of the outer space as the monster trying to break in. It will cause problems with most thing.

Also, Your map looked like it had default lighting. Lighting is a hard task, but running away from it is not an option... Wait? Why am I telling you this? read those wikies now!

There is no friggin' way this should be in Releases, it doesn't even qualify for a WIP.

I couldn't record a video because of how fucked up this map is and whenever I tried it just froze the game. I did manage to get some portions of it recorded but i think the videos are corrupted due to the game crashing while they were recording.
This map even managed to break Portal in such a way that I couldn't open console or load any maps without restarting it.

IMO you should permanently delete this map from the downloads area so it shall never have to harm anyone else's eyes with it's shittyness.

Will edit if the videos manage to upload without exploding the internet.

Edit: Well I can show you the Vids but you can't really see much 'cos most of the recordings didn't actually record.

man, now I found the time to take a look at the walkthrough and I must admit I have never seen such a terrible map (can this even be labeled as a map?)
if you think that open leaks are funny, then make your maps for yourself and don't release them to the internet. EVER.

okay yeah guys.. I get it now.

I didn't want the leaks to be funny, I was sorta.. well whatev I'm gonna stop even bothering to explain it anymore. But it should be time some people realised the difference between good design, and just making something look pretty. (although most of the design in this isn't that great I'll admit, the only real bit you get to use the portalgun is at the end, in one of the solutions, where you have to implement a triple fling)

Anyway, I'm putting a lot more effort into my next map, with some intuitive puzzles, lighting.. but also some elements that surprise you, testing your reflexes because nothing really happens twice. Obviously, elements like spikes don't follow the classic 'portal' style.. but I like to think I'm making something original.

What a misdirection puzzle is all about is having a seemingly obvious solution, but it is never that easy, I add at least one new obstacle between your goal and the player, and it changes too, I'm trying to keep 'surprise' deaths to a minimum, and once you work out what to do, you should hopefully only die once or twice before getting it out.

Hmm... I'll share this idea with you I just had: There's a weighted storage cube that you gotta take with you to a button, with some turrets that'll shoot at you.. seems easy enough, but the turrets can break the box (making it explode) when they shoot it, so you need to find other ways to get it to it's destination.

That's looking a lot better, but not hard enough.

To stay true to IWBTG, you have to make it extremely difficult even when you know what to do. By the looks of it, it is possible to do the whole map easily because you know what to do. Then again, you might piss people off if you make it too hard (ie., IWBTG)

Of course, this will NEVER be as hard because you can save any time you want.

About the cube, you could make it explode when you pick it up, forcing the player to use portals/push it.

Or use the Overweighted Storage Cube (this would be the first map to implement it afaik).

I realize now that no idea is unique, I was hoping to use that in a map I am working on. Oh well guess I will have to find something else.

@appunxintator: I'll start it off easy and get harder, once people know sorta what the map's all about. Coz like.. noone will wanna play it if it's like iwbtg straight off.
