I re-downloaded this map, I got it to work this time. I thought it was pretty good, but I couldn't figure out how to get across to the other side of the room where the floor and lower walls can hold a portal but the ceiling and upper walls as well as the floor on the other side can't hold a portal (the room with no button). The rest of it, I figured out.

this is an interesting map, but i have to agree with the above posters that a lot of the puzzles aren't very... portal-like. the unfinished room being the primary example. Pushing walls out of the way smacks of Wolfenstein 3D. I haven't reached the end yet, I'm a bit stuck in the area with the sentries behind the fence and the voice says to go left, and then 'sorry about that, the OTHER door' in the dead-end hallway. There's nowhere else to go that I can see, just a hall full of unopenable doors, the room with the shelves that had a sentry in it, and the room before that with the broken pneumatic tube... tried going in there but the cubes passing by kept killing me. or making me absolutely stuck.

I'd like to get on with the second map but i need to figure this one out first.

the next one is part 2? or episode 1? Come on, just because Half-Life can get away with such a wonky numbering system doesn't mean it's not confusing.

I think all maps downloaded from ThinkingWithPortals should have corresponding walkthroughs somewhere on the site. You people (as a group) come up with some really sadistic puzzles.

It isn't that tough. When you go into the area, where the guy says sorry, the other door, go to the right. There is a change level in that L shaped room

Ha. For some reason the change level wasn't working. I went back and forth through that hallway and even noclip'd around a bit before it finally tossed me to the next area.

change levels do not work in noclip mode.

i didn't activate noclip until after i ran through the whole place multiple times. I ran all over the place looking for a way out, up and down the hallway, got frustrated and activated noclip and zoomed around a bit.

The change level didn't kick in until i deactivated the noclip and ran through it again. Definitely a bug.

Yeah, well, I had the level change problem too, used noclip as well but to no avail. I changed the map to the second bsp file manually but it was just a small area of the second map.

The way it should. I always include a placeholder map, so the transition will work, when they get the next map. I tested it thoroughly and found no issues.

it is a fun little map. i found the portal gun was very hard to find, but otherwise the game was fairly straightforward. although i did notice that at the end, with the broken pipe, you can stack some blocks to get into the pipe and use another block to jam it. once jhammed, no more blocks go by and you can unjam your own jam and get into the orange room beyond. from there you cant do anything at all though. but very fun game.

Very great map! I didn't have any problems at all. I was about to quit in the unfinished room too, but then I portaled a wall by a corner then on the wall next to it and kept running, but one of my portals disappeared and I realized it was on a moving wall.

I also did not notice the chariots of fire on the radio?. I'll have to work on finding that later. But I did find the easter egg which I thought wasn't an easter egg at all.

I thought the easter egg at first was in the first "behind the scenes room" with the writing on the wall and TV ect. I thought it was the login of Cave Johnson and Password to Aperturescience.com near the bottom of the graffitied wall.

Overall, looking way forward to the future of this series! Very great!

Yes I know. I explained, or at least I thought I did, that I found it already.

And the chamber after the one with the pit in the middle of it, in episode 1 has stumped me!

I am having trouble with the L shaped coridor as well, I'll try messing with it a little more, but if that doesn't work I'll just load the next map...

EDIT: I re-loaded from a save a made in the L shaped room and it does a level jump instantly. When that finished loading, I walked forward to a door and it faded out and said Episode 1 coming soon.

That was a pretty cool map. It had good details. However the portalgun was kind of hard to find on top of that shelf in the dark. The "Elevator Room" I was a little confused, but then I found out I had to use the companion cubes from the "PortalGun Room" to climb up to the first door and use it. I kind of figured to "use" the door because of the arrow pointing to it. I did have a little bit of trouble in the "unfinished room", but I finally started walking against the walls pressing the use button to see if anything happened, and saw the one part moved in. A pretty good map, I'm gonna play the Episode 1 version now.

Some Problems:
You can shoot portals underwater...
Other than that, I didn't find anything wrong.

I haven't got to play it yet... I've been out of the portal scene for awhile, but someone told me i should check these out. so i'll try to get to them soon..

But for honesty's sake... i think i should say, this isn't exactly your first submission to the community

Hi,
The forum rules say not to post in a topic that's more than a month old, just create a new one. But when I try to create a new topic, it says I'm not allowed. So here we go.

The links to the downloadable file in the OP are broken... when I click on them, I get a page saying the file does not exist. Is there somewhere I can get them?

Thanks,
Lars

Here it is:
http://forums.thinking.withportals.com/dload.php?action=file&file_id=308

Also, you need to get 7zip to extract it.

As for creating new threads: you can't create new threads in "Community Releases" and "Work in Progress". It's usually OK to bump a thread if you've just joined (Welcome, btw ) and want to comment on a map you played. (or want to play). Don't overdo it however
