Small Update Regarding Uploading PTI Maps

I wanted to give a small update regarding upload procedures for puzzle creator maps.

We have setup a new Puzzle Creator download category in the Download Database. Please upload all of your PTI maps there. You should use the "External URL" option and link to your Workshop release URL when doing this. (Don't know how to upload a map? Read here!) This rule supersedes previous decisions to only post maps in the "Pimp your workshop map" thread. You can still post it there; you are not required to upload your PTI map through the DLDB.

This category is for maps created with the PTI Puzzle Creator only. If you made a map in Hammer, but uploaded it to the Workshop, then upload it to the "Singleplayer" category as normal. You can still use the External URL option to link to your Workshop URL.

We have done this to keep PTI created maps and Hammer created maps separate, but also allowing PTI maps to be properly showcased.

We are still enforcing our release quality standards for PTI maps, and we will still remove your PTI created map if it's a low quality release!

This is only a first step towards further integrating the Workshop release platform with ThinkingWithPortals.com. Check back soon for news regarding new upload procedures as we develop more closely with the Workshop.

Feel free to post any questions you might have. Thanks.

EDIT
I also want to take the chance to point out that we do not support piracy, and any discussion or admission of pirating the game will result in an instant and permanent ban. Period. We support Valve, and if you want to participate in our community, you should too.

I would have preferred to see PTI maps end up on their own board but I guess this is something - I just hope the PTI maps don't flood the board and burry all the hammer maps from designers that need/want feedback. While I play a few PTI maps, I don't ever feel the need to critique them.

Also, OkillerO's The Pyramid is flagged as PTI and it shouldn't be.

Thanks for the tip about that map, we'll move it back.

If the board does end up being flooded - which I don't think it will - then we will create a new board for them. I'd rather wait to see if that happens before we split things up.

When I try to upload, there doesn't seem to be a category for Released Maps - PTI. Is there something I'm missing or am I just being an idiot?

I'm a little confused - I can't see a way to upload (that is, post a link to) a PTI map from the PTI category page - there's no upload link! [screenshot]. Does the category only work if you're an admin or moderator, perhaps?

EDIT: Seems to be fixed now.

Uploading should be fixed, go ahead and try it now. It was a permissions error.

Hmmm... Am I the only one worried that there will be a million PTI maps released upon the forum, making it harder to find the real properly made Hammer maps?

I wont be too hasty here, maybe it works out. I'm just speculating...

This will happen. It's already starting to happen.

How much editing in Hammer would constitute posting in the normal DLDB? For instance, if I made a map in the map editor but made the indicator strips less weird, would that constitute uploading it in the normal DLDB?

Use your own judgement on this really. In this case I, personally, would still consider it a puzzle creator map even if you did minor editing in Hammer.

I have an idea, I don't know if you can do it, I don't have a lot of experience with sites... on the sidebar have a "Recent Uploads (Hammer)" and a "Recent Uploads (PTI)"? Just a thought, I don't care that much, but I definitely don't want the uploads to be flooded, like they already are

I only made the change like an hour ago, so of course everyone is going apeshit and adding the PTI maps they haven't published yet. Let's give it more than 2 hours before we decide to break things into new categories, yeah?

Sorry, IF it continues to not work out. I never said it had to be changed now. It was just a suggestion.

Right, but as I keep saying, IF it does turn into a problem then we'll do something about it.

Something I decided to do and thought would be worthwhile suggesting here for everyone is putting a link back to the TWP forum for your map in the description on the workshop. It'll save people having to go back and look for it after finishing a map, especially if they're like me and subscribe to a bunch of maps at once to play through at a later time.

You're right. Good idea to not get lost - and to maybe attract some more people to this awesome place if the map was good.

Definitely anyone who links to TWP from their Workshop page!

File Size: not "availible".

Please fix this.
