Is there anywhere to get a free mp3 of the full version? I really want to use it for a map, but I'm not going to go out and buy a cd just for the one track.

You could get the track by itself from iTunes for $0.99, then convert it to MP3. I don't know how legal it is to distribute commercial music in a map file though.

Are we talking about the smooth jazz clip used in the destroyed chambers? I was unaware it was an actual composition, I thought it was something VALVe just put together for the game.

The name of the song is "Offering", but the OP didn't really make that clear that that was what he meant when he said it. Here's the full version of it on youtube, if you have the name of the composer and the song then you have all you need to know to get the MP3 somewhere...

Ah, thank you for the clarification.

I hate to rain on your parade, but if you want to include the MP3 or whatever file format you end up getting it in, you'd need the composer's permission first.

It isn't anywhere in the game assets? Or is it only a part of the big long sound clip?

Also, I really seriously doubt anyone will recognize that one single piece of smooth jazz above others. Try finding something in the public domain.

That shouldn't be hard, I found the composers Youtube channel and he seems to be active, and a good guy.

I would, and I can assure you that others will too. This is actually for my mod Portal 1.5, for the clean version of chamber 04.

If the guy has a YouTube channel, get in contact with him and ask him if it would be okay with him if you used his song in a mod you're making. Make sure to mention you won't be making any money off of the mod and that it'll only be used once in the game. As a musician, I would probably let you use my music if I was approached in the same situation. At the very least, pay a dollar for the song, though. Send it to him through PayPal if it makes you feel better.

Guy's a youtuber? Valve really scraped the bottom of the barrel for their sounds. Thought it would be some high end composer.

Well, last time I checked, his yYouTube channel was fairly new, after the release of the game, and the only video was of Offering.
