So, let's say I take the ASHPD out of AS...

Portals seem to work on any mostly white surface that is also mostly smooth, because those stick out the most against darkness.I don't think that surfaces are anti-portal or pro-portal because of what they are made out of, more because of how they are made.

Well, before Portal 2 it wasn't so obvious, but after completing Portal2's single mode: Chell placed a portal in the moon at the end scenes of Portal 2; this means that, at least 1 of the portals can be placed outside... though still the other was placed inside AS... hmmm... interesting point of view...

If you have an AC-powered rifle and fire it out the window, just as much damage would be done to whatever it hits as if you fired into the floor below your feet.

I wonder where the "point of no return" is in a miniature black hole.

What about that the "only" requirement for a portal to be conducted is for the surface to carry a certain diffuse reflectivity.

If its too reflective (water/mirror/glass) it wont work.
If it's too dark (metal, cave walls) it wont work.
If it's too bumpy (cave walls, wood, complex objects) it wont work
If the light isnt reflected evenly across the visible spectrum (having a colour) it wont work

The reason the moonpaint could be such a good conducter is that it has a certain whiteness and a certain reflectivity to it, perfect for conducting a portal.

This would mean that it would work on "any" surface, as long as it has the right colour and reflectivity.
Also moondust contains is mostly Silicon oxide, lime and quite a few other metalic oxides.
The ingredients supporting this theory would be the silicon oxide and lime, both 2 ingredients used in the white concrete.
The probable "lethality" could be explained by that because moondust particles are very sharp, like finely ground up glass, something no one's body would apreciate.

So if this theory is correct, it would work "everywhere" as long as it's used on white surfaces.

As for the wood, in P2, there are plenty wooden surfaces, and you can't shoot portals at any.

So that's why you can't look in the operational end of the device...

Actually, those checkered wall pieces you shoot at in Cave Chambers have wood in thier texture name. So I go with the guy who said it's based on how it's made.

Yeah wood works, so does bricks and concrete.

No, wood does not work - there are some textures that are CLEARLY almost pure wood (idk the names, but I've used and seen them), and they don't accept Portals

I'm going to take the oppurtunity to remind you before msleeper or lpfreaky does that you should not bring up ancient threads by posting on them. You have necro'd this thread that died a year ago.

This thread has gotten bumped for years. Fun fact: I've hated this thread since it's inception.
