Sorry for the bump, but the Source Filmmaker is now Live. Hopefully it will bring more discussions.

Bump?

Son, around here, nothing is considered a warnable bump. Hell, we haven't had a forum long enough to have bumpable threads

But yeah, it seems anyone who applied to the survey is now in. Have fun, guys.

YES! SFM! Probably won't make anything special but... it's always fun with new tools

"The current mod is from a different directory than your executable. This can be caused by running a tool from one product while the current mod is from a different product. The mod can be set from the SDK.

(path: C:\Program Files
(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\smf.exe)

(VGAME: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Portal 2)"

How do I fix this? It pops up every time I try to use SFM.

Have you tried launching it from the SDK?

Oh hey, look at that. I didn't actually see that option in the SDK. My bad, It works okay now.

Here is a image I spent about an hour on:

For some reason I couldn't get the Color Correction to show up when i saved it as a poster, I think it might also look better with DoF. I haven't figured that out yet though. Anyway, do you like it?

Nice work.

DOF is pretty easy, actually. Here's how:

  • Enable it in your Progressive Refinement settings
  • Add an animationset for your current camera
  • Select some/all time and change the aperture - larger aperture, more blur (I say larger, I mean further to the right. I don't actually know if that makes it larger or smaller)
  • Select some/all time and change the focal distance. There's two ways to do this, you can either use the slider or (smarter), hold F and move the mouse. The latter method should bring up a purple clipping plane that shows you where the focal point of the DOF will be. Either way, you'll probably want to remap the slider range so that you can focus further than 96 units.
  • To preview, apply changes and switch back to the clip editor. While it's paused, it should render a preview or what it'll look like. It doesn't do this in the motion or graph editors.

Here is the latest image I've been working on

Colossal said it would be better with more fitting melee weapon for the Pyro, so I thought axtinguisher would fit the bill.

Any thoughts?

The pyro's pose is a little weird, and it could do with some more dramatic lighting, but it's pretty good other than that.

I'm gonna go ahead and pretend to be Huff for a moment, and say that it should be the Fire Axe, for obvious reasons.

I agree, the pyro's pose looks a little off; I think you were trying to do something along the liens of the execution-style Scorch Shot's taunt: for that, I'd straighten him out a little more and have not facing the camera quite so much.

I may or may not go back and fix whatever needs to be fixed here. As it is I've spent more time than I'd like on this image (about 3 hours to be exact) It's all a learning process for me so far. I hope to be able to perfect things like posing so that I can move onto video making one day. Thanks for the constructive feedback though!

Surprisingly, I didn't find any other SFM-thread, so here is one. General SFM I guess.

I felt for trying to make something nice in the SFM (that will probably fail), but I couldn't find the SFM under All Games nor Tools. I installed it via steampowered and it appears to download correctly, but doesn't show up in my library. Is this a local bug, or is it meant to be unavailable in some way?

EDIT: It now shows up as a game. Problem solved, general SFM thread then...

Yeah, despite being categorized as an "app" in the store and functioning similar to source tools, steam lists it under games. Who knows why.

If this deal with Van works out (read: if I can actually commit to a project) I might put myself up for commissions. Apparently I'm exactly all-right-enough with SFM for people to want me to do things for them.
