Troubles With Highlighting Instances

Well I decided to gather the gang up and host a meeting on what we should do with our latest project. While I was talking I asked a member to go on my computer and fix the issue involving those colorful boxes (the un-rendered instances) and to make it so I don't have to adjust my camera to a curtain position to be able to see the stairs without seeing the colorful boxes. So he went into [Tools:] [Options:] [3D View:] and messed with the [Model Render Distance:] and the [Detail Render Distance:]. Now I am unable to use my pointer to highlight any thing in my map other than the outter most wall in my map.

What Have I Tried:

*I've tried re-messing with the scroll bar to different numbers on the model and detail render distance.

*I've tried copying my whole map and re-pasting it into a new map, same problem occurs.

*I even read the... {pukes a little inside} ...manual/help screen. No findings.

Please help me with this issue, the only thing I see left to do is to re-install the Authoring Tools. I don't want to do that.

(Update: This is what is exactly happening after I just opened up hammer again...
When I click on a box infront of me, the pointer highlights the furthest of my wall in the map. So it bypasses anything in-front (doesn't register them) and just highlights the out reaches of my map.)

If this helps you help me, great. If not, I'm going to drop kick my friend and hit him with his portal gun replica.

Alright, after twidling around with it, I found out that if I go to [Tools: Options: 3D Views:] and I change the {back clipping plane} to around 1000 and lower I am able to click on closer instances, but my range of view the map is blacked out. Before, I was able to see the whole map and click anything I wanted, so there must be more to this. Please I would love some help on fixing this, even posting the information on what your settings are set to this. Just give me the number that the {back clipping} is set to along with the detail and model render are set to. As wells as what the boxes are checked off on as well in the 3D view option. The sooner the better.

tl;dr means Too lazy; didn't read.

Try splitting your wall of text into smaller paragraphs next time.

Anyway, try the solutions here, here and here, or just search around.

Thank you very much angelsl.

I found the problem, my friend must have hit the reverse selection order, because now I am able to click on what I need. Now I don't have to murder my friend

[BTW people: If your going to be the coolest kid over the internet and reply to a forum saying you were too lazy and didn't read it... then just smash your computer with a hammer. Don't be a tool, and show how cool you are by saying you actually came in the forum, did not read it, and actually were too lazy but still posted a useless comment. If your going to do that, don't comment at all, pretty immature.]

I'm done complaining... continue on with your lives
