Description

Since a lot of people like the 1st Aquatic Map I made I decided to make a slightly harder map that's made up of a main chamber and two smaller chambers. Doors open without switches. To make things interesting, the player will start without a Portal Gun. But a Portal Gun can be found in the map somewhere. Have fun with this new challenge! There is a hidden room somewhere with something in it to take to the elevator.

There is 3 possible ways (that I know) to get to the hidden room. BTW anyone hear the turrets in the boxes? I wasn't sure if people could hear raw wav. files.

Did not see that coming, the cube landing on the laser I mean. But it's no big deal, but kind of weird funny.

I think is a nice concept, which gives you some new puzzle elements! Well done!
The custom turret lines were great too! I'm not sure if I reached the hidden room I did get The portal gun.

Since the hidden room is in "plain view," I'll mention what it involves: A false wall made with a portal surface that doesn't conduct portals. I wanted players to examine that particular part of the wall. Also there is SOMETHING pointing to the wall. And inside the secret room is something to take with you to the elevator for something funny to happen.

KennKong • Oct 11, 2011 • #49960

Nice extension of the original. The puzzles were better, the hidden room was not (having a big arrow pointing to it isn't hiding), and the turret sounds were funny.

Short (but not too short), fairly simple puzzles (with enough mix and match elements to make multiple solutions possible), a rather plain look, and death as a definite possiblity. An enjoyable map to play.

As much as I like the water concept, it has its problems. Things on the other side of poratls are black. It is a little hard to maneuver: I found placing the laser cubes and going into portals (especially carrying a cube) to be a little annoying.

Other posters have noted that if you drop the laser cubes on the laser grills, they don't fall to the floor.

I realize that the portals weren't rendering correctly and it was a risk I was willing to take. However, there was one time where looking though the orange portal that the world did render correctly when the blue portal was open for the reflect cube. So it could be the water or it could be something else. BTW Did you (or anyone) take the defective turret to the elevator?

Yeah, I forgot to mentioned drowning in both maps. But you can tell if your drowning if the player starts twitching.

I haven't played it yet, but regarding the cube not falling through the laser field: Make sure you set the laser field brush to Not Solid.

I tried a number of things but I could only access your secret room by noclipping.

And yes, I did take the item to the elevator.

Well, easiest way is to stack the boxes (at least 3 stacked on top of each other), second way is using the Hard Light, and the third way is using momentum.

I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:

Well, the 2nd one was taking the defective turret to the elevator. Since the turret says stuff when you pick him up, that would be the 1st along with finding the hidden room.

Okay, then it may be a second easter egg, but it's not very difficult to "find". I always keep useless stuff when I find it
I still like the map concept, will there be more AATCs?

Not at the moment; however, I am currently making a map called "Aperture Time Testing Center" that includes a time machine for altering the past to affect the future. Take a look at the Showcasing Thread to see some pictures of what I'm working with. I will not abandon the AATC Map Series though.

The ATTC map is already 3/4th complete. There isn't any room for non-toxic water, although it would be awesome to have both concepts. Perhaps I'll make a map with both concepts later.

I can't help but notice that all of your clipped brushes around the doors go a few units too low, and you can see them through the door model.

I enjoyed this map. Had trouble getting into the hidden room until I read the hints here. Someone mentioned that the arrow makes it too obvious, but I think without the arrow it would be too hard to find (nearly impossible). Unless you make the texture of the wall different there. Maybe use the checkered white to entice people to try a portal there.

Yeah, I considered using different textures, but didn't think it would be as eye-catching as an arrow. But then again, I didn't try using both ideas at once. The next false wall I make will have both ideas used and see how that works.
