Description

This is my first Portal 2 map. It's a clean map with three chambers and testing elements such as cubes, buttons, discouragement beams and turrets. Feedback is appreciated. Please note that the map file is a .vpk file which isn't installed the same way as a .bsp file. Please take your time to look at the readme even if you know how to install the map (otherwise, things might go very wrong). v 1.0 -release v 1.1 -put first fizzler in chamber 1 higher up -changed the faith plate in chamber 3 (puzzle is a bit different)

If you're having problems in chamber 3 with a cube not catapulting by the faith plate, just press the button for a new cube.

Excellent map! Tons of fun to play. Puzzles were thoughtful but not too difficult. I expecially enjoyed room 3 because I like to fling. I thought if you put some timers in it, it would make it more challenging, expecially for the flinging puzzle. If you add on to this map, please do something with funnels and gel - then it will have everything.
Map looks great - everything worked fine. Keep up the great work!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I don't think I will add any more to the puzzles though, just going to fix bugs. I'll try to make future maps a bit more challenging instead.

I enjoyed the maps. They did not transition from one to the next though. I had to do it manually. Oh, and thanks for the heads up on moving the file after playing. I was wondering how my single player game was messed up from a previous download.

I found an exploit in the very first room. You can jump and grab the cube before it reach the emancipation grid, thus skipping the whole room. You could avoid this by raising the emancipation grid so that the cube gets destroyed before it comes in hand reach.

Also, the levels are kind of small, if you could put them all in one it would be great!

Other than that these are really nice maps!

Good job!

Nice set of maps. Very professionally built, look great (well, map #3 could use some variation of textures) and enjoyable puzzles.

Nothing that really had me thinking much, by I had a good time playing them anyway.

I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:

Also note the video description for more feedback and my signature for additional project information.

The above video is only the first chamber as I had already rendered it before I noted that there were more maps in the vpk. So I decided to give each of the chambers its own video as I didn't feel like re-rendering.
So here are part 2...

A clean map, with decent if somewhat easy puzzles. I found no obvious glitches, except:
The bouncing cube was a bit flaky. Sometimes the cube would just fall into the water (before I had even gone for it), other times it would stop bouncing and just lay on the platform by the catapult. The fling to get the cube has a variety of unpleasant results depending on my timing. I fell short into the drink, I hit the angle plate and bounced into the drink, and I landed on the catapult.

I much preferred the first laser cube catch, which could be repeated without death. The final one got annoying, because I like to be able to get something on the first try after I have figured out what to do.

There is a potential exploit in the final room, although I freely admit I lack the ninja skills to pull it off.

After the cube is bouncing, if you land on the catapult platfrorm (which I did), you can grab the cube and throw it onto the bridge button (which I almost did). You might be able to land on the bridge (I couldn't pull that off, but it was awfully close!)

I didn't experience any of the difficulties you warn about in the readme file. My single player game still works fine with your .vpk present.

EDIT 9/26: Oh, yes I did have problems leaving the .vpk file there. Forewarned is forearmed; knowing there was a potential problem made finding the fix trivial.

A fairly decent job for a first map. I gave it a 4/5, but the same level of visuals and easy puzzles in a second map probably would only get a 3. I would like to see more dramatic lighting, textures, some sound, and better puzzles. Still, overall, I liked it. Keep going, this is a very good start.

I'll try to fix the thing when you can grab the cube and avoid the puzzle, but I don't think I can put everything in one level, it would be too complex at this stage.

Is there anyone else having this problem? I don't know but if you have any other .vpk's in the addons folder with custom transition scripts that might be what causes the problem. Try having just one .vpk in the folder and see if it works.

All right, people have been complaining about the faith plate in chamber 3 where the cube could land on the plate and not catapult. I've seen it in Djinndrache's video and I will try to fix this in some way.

Fun Map(s) Easier than the previous mappers upload (still haven't finished lol), but enjoyable to play. I experienced the same issue in room 3 with the cube coming to rest just beside the faith plate. managed to land beside the cube and grab, but then the faith plate did not seem to want to respond to my presence. Don't know if that's a glitch or me just not being in the right spot. So, after a resulting death... lol I solved as intended.. happened once more before I was able to time the jump right, but altogether not that much of an issue.

Nice mapping.. I look forward to seeing some more work with more challenging puzzles.

You didn't solve it the intended way but you're playing v 1.0 and chamber 3 is slightly different in v 1.1

When I have both your addons and Portal Raider Toxic, I don't have the portal gun in Portal Raider. After remove your addon, Portal Raider worked.

Given the size of the maps, is it necessary to have 3? Can't you combine them to avoid all the loading?

I got a bit of a bug where the weighted cube in room two, part two(?, with the two turrets in the cage) got stuck in the dropping cylinder. I hit the button to kill it and make a new one, and it killed the old one without creating another. I hit the button a few more times, and at some point, I'm not sure when, the cylinder got stuck open and lit up orange...

Perhaps this is a common occurrence when cubes getting stuck? I'm new to this place.

The bug you're speaking of isn't made by me, I'm using an instance made by Valve for the dropper so there could be some error in that one. I looked in the map though and saw a thing which might cause some error, I can fix this but I can't guarantee you that the bug will disappear.

EDIT: I took another look at the map and and the error wasn't caused by the thing I thought might cause it. Nobody else has reported this so I guess it's a rare bug. Since I don't know what causes it, I can't fix it.

For the portal gun error, you will need to have the .vpk in the addons folder when you play the addon and remove it when you're done. Portal 2 loads the scripts from the last loaded .vpk which will overrun the original scripts made by Valve. Other maps will not work properly when fizzled_chambers.vpk is in the addons folder and there is a warning for this in the readme file.

For the issue of loading time, I know it might have been better if the maps were combined. I will try to make this better in future maps, but to combine the existing maps now would simply be too much work when everything is made to work as a .vpk.

Very nice clean map, and multiple chambers - well done. Only problem was with the cube catch from the faith plate - random fall from dropper but it eventually had a clean fall and good boost from the FPlate so it could be caught. Is that a problem, maybe not, just took a few tries to get it to work - at least it didn't require a restart...thanks for creating and I look forward to your next set.

Personally I appreciated the not so flashy, but snappy and accomplished Clean looks and most importantly the fast and furious attitude. Breezing through half a dozen chambers in like 10 minutes reminded me of world-famous Discovery.

The very last one can be somewhat tweaked to skip a part, but not even that much so no problems. For once, I think upping the difficulty on this one would ruin the balance charm. Possibly some COOP tunes would set the mood as light as the playability. Thumbs up!

Thanks everyone who have downloaded and commented, never thought the map would be downloaded this much.
If anyone is trying to play the map please look here first http://forums.thinking.withportals.com/mapping-help/vpk-s-no-longer-working-in-addons-folder-t4747.html.
The recent dlc seems to have done something to the way that Portal 2 handles .vpk files and the addons folder doesn't work anymore. None of the solutions is as good as before the dlc but xdiesp's solution makes it playable. I hope Valve will fix it but in the meantime this fix lets you play the map.
